Hi. I have these 2 hatchets. The one on the right is a no-name and likely an Asian copy. The left hatchet says “made in Germany”. Does that mean it could be ore-WW2? After the war, until the Berlin Wall came down in 1989, things were usually marked West or East Germany. This hatchet just says Germany. Both hatchets resemble Bridgeport’s but I am wondering if the German one goes back as far or farther than the Bridgeport hatchets. Any thoughts?

Which one is left ?

You need to upload them somewhere else then copy and paste the url for them into the image tags. They have to be uploaded offsite and linked to in your post.

try this, dukie
upload the image, then copy the link that says "Direct Link", then come back here and in the reply bar, there's a little icon of a portrait, on the left of the little smiley face. click that and paste your image's url in there

Thank you. I think that worked.

That's an OLD one! the most i could find about the hatchet was a name, Strong Boy Hatchet #2731. a single listing for it on some random scam-looking site, and it doesn't say anything about the year it came from, just that it's old.

Thank you MC. Worthpoint isn’t necessarily a bad site but they won’t let you see the value of something unless you are a member..which I’m not. There are a few variations of this hatchet. Some say Made in West Germany which would give a broad time frame. I have also seen some that have GC and Co stamps. That’s Gutmann Cutlery from Mount Vernon, NY. They were an importer and distributor that started up in 1947. My hatchet doesn’t have the distributior stamp and the fact that it doesn’t say West Germany indicates it could be pre-war but it is hard to say for sure. Still nothing on who made it.
