Anyone know what you can carry on a visit to Germany?
Forbidden stuff is as follows.
++ automatic switchblades
++ gravity blades (front-out)
++ push daggers
++ butterfly knives
++ throwing stars
Everything else that's sharpened is pretty much allowed in Germany, but there is legislation that gives police a great deal of liberty in making decisions based on situation and perceived intent.
In other words, if you are running around with a full size fixed blade on your belt, it will likely get you sacked not because it's illegal, but because the cops may figure that you intend to play macho and cause trouble. So they will take you and the knife off the street for a few hours to make you cool down. If you clip something the size of an average folder to your pocket, nobody will care much.
Plus, there is a rubberband paragraph that in essence says "No concealed carry in crowds and on social gatherings". This is pretty much meant as an asscover for law enforcement, since in the busy streets of your average town you are always in a crowd of one sort or another. Again, keep the size of your tool within moderate limits, and nobody will trouble you.
Good luck.
