German Made Ethiopian Officer's Sword

I think a nearly identicle blade is to be found in the older archives of Ethnographic arms forum, That may have a translation with it.

Whomever got that got a bargooon. That is a 'working sword' rather than a dress sword. Really the only thing Ethiopean is the inscriptions and the scabbard. The pattern is used in Germany, but mainly in Britain. It should have a sharkskin and silver wire wrapped hilt which has been removed and a polished black leather scabbard with steel throat and chape or an all metal scabbard.

I have a similar shaped blade from the battle of Trafalgar, but it has a brass hilt. I also have a Turkish naval sword with similar decoration on the blade.

Andrew, thank you fgor the info. The scabbard is typically Ethiopian. Leather and hand sewn.

I did post on the EEW Fourm. Let's see what they say? I also very much value the opinions of the Cantina people. PLease keep up the responses.

I also have a little African circumcision knife with a scabbard of the same skin and stitched construction.
