Can anyone point me in the direction of some good info references on the Walther P38?

A friend has one that he is thinking about selling, and needs to do some research.

It has matching numbers, and swastikas.

It does not have a magazine, so we are wondering if the mag would have had a serial number as well?

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

i have an old walther P38 my dad brought back from WW2, marked 'cyq' which is spreewerk IIRC, condition probably 90+% i have a book with all the codes listed (will have to look for it, its in the closet somewhere...) if ya want to list the codes/send me an EM and i'll look it up.

my P38 does have 2 mags, matching # on both IIRC. IIRC holster was numbered also.

P38s along with other WW2 memorobilia are really going up up up in price, mine was worth only $150 or $200 20 yrs ago, a little more now. prime example would be my SA dagger(dad brought it back too), worth about $150 10 yrs ago, about $850 or so now, of course would never sell either 1, but always wondered what they were worth.......

if anyone knows a good site i would be interested also.

I passed on the link and info, and was told it was a great help.

Thanks.

Just for the record I will post pics and prices if/when that is obtained/determined for the public record. :)

Thanks again.

German WWII Ordnance Codes.

Note: Some late-war P38s can be of iffy quality. If it's going to be shot, I'd recommend that a gunsmith look it over. You wouldn't want to fall victim to some unfortunate 1945 slave worker's booby trap!

Good point, Otter. Thanks for bringing that up.

I will pass on your link as well. That should help even more.
