Hi,
I'm a new member and I've just been given 3, G. Weinand knives. They are various length blades (7" , 4 1/2", & a 4" ) All are brand new never used pieces and I was hoping someone could give me an idea of their value.
For instance, all the knives have horn handles of some kind. One looks more like stag horn to me. All have brass handguards(?) and rivet pins.
The blades all appear to be made of dendritic D2 steel and are highly polished with G.Weinand's stamped big horn sheep emblemone on them. Also one is marked cryojenic treated.
Any advice as to their value and any comments would be appreciated.
Thank you,............Ned Kelly Gang

Rare, fairly unknown (to me) maker, who probably made some nice knives, but is not sought after. Old-school material (brass) is less desirable, and they are the very common hunter styles.

They are mostly valuable only to someone who personally knew the maker and admired his work. You would be hard-pressed to gain much interest here. I may be corrected (and for your sake I hope so) but this is how I see it.

Do a google search and search eBay past and current for examples. If you strike out both times just enjoy your knives without regard for the value.

EDIT: Looks like you got some sound responses on the second thread posted in this forum. Great.

I just met Gerome today and picked up one of his knives as well. I have nothing but wonderful things to say about him and his knives.

I have a feeling that you'll be seeing some of his work on the forum soon, but its not my place to say so, so I'm just going to leave it at that. Here's a picture of the knife I just got today, in the mean time.

Nice score Ned Kelley gang. He's not "famous" like some guys, but I think it's a PR issue more than anything. I've been to his shop in Missoula, and know the quality of his work. He's never really put himself out there like some have, but he's been at it for many years perfecting his craft. He's just finished two runs of knives for TOPS Knive's Damascus line-up. He made them 2 dozen Tom Brown Trackers in damscus.

If the knives you got have rams stamped on them then that's what the handle is; ram horn. His 7" blades directly from him go for around $200, and a 4" can be between $125-$150.

If you're looking to sell them let me know. His stuff is all users. Go beat the hell out of 'em. They'll take more than you'll ever dish out on them.:D

Damn The Man - can't thank you enough for getting me hooked up w/ Gerome - we had a great day at the shop and look forward to going back there soon. Awesome experience - again - thanks!

Here's another knife I just picked up from Gerome for my dad. Sorry about the low quality pic. Its got a Mastadon Ivory handle on it. Awesome stuff...
