Your thoughts on this combo from Gesshin, and your thoughts on Gesshin in general. I understand this is a S/G Stone? I stand corrected, after reading a bit on the stone it appears that it can be used as a S/G but it benefits from a presoak.

Gesshin was a hot topic in Japanese kitchen knife circles a few years back. I bought into the hype with a 400 and 2000. They are right in between Shapton GlassStone and Sigma Power Select II in terms of feedback, slurry production, cutting speed and wear rate. The 1K definitely needs to soak if you want it to cut fast without constantly spritzing the surface. But this is going off my experience with the 2K.

I bought 1K Gesshin a few years back and don't use it much anymore, since newer acme-brand ~$30 1/6K combo ws works as well or better. 1K GS is a little harder than my various 1K ws, which stay flat better however more prone to glaze over for alloyed blades with hrc over 62rc. Abrasive density of these new crop of ws is as or higher than GS, translate to better abrading/cutting rate.
