What parameters are most important in choosing a EDC? Handle length? Blade-steel? Grip thickness? Blade-length? Grip materials?
All of these things are big deals, but I know, personally, that I don't want to carry a fat brick...whether it has a short handle or long handle. I just don't like 'em. It's nice to have a choice.

So, by choosing the Spyderco Paramilitary 2 (aka PM2) as a well-loved commonly-carried EDC and setting it as my arbitrary "standard" of grip-width, I came up with this chart that you might use to your benefit also.

You can also see blade-thickness and steel type in these examples, but this chart examines, primarily, grip-width as it relates to comfort and a secure carry in my hand. I have found that grip-width can make or break my decision to purchase, or to carry, any particular knife model.

Nice table. I think the height of the grip could potentially play into things as well. I will agree that the 755 is one massive chunk of knife.

What no grip thickness on a grip or a mini-grip?

You can't use such a title without the dimension of these BM knives...come on.

Thanks for the thought that went into that. Its appreciated.....yet I have to play spoiler to your parade and suggest to you it doesn't matter about measurements. If it feels good in the hand, it's cool...

Me thinks there is more to carry comfort (CC) than just numbers. Other factors in CC: clip position, grip texture, overall weight of knife , type of pants/fabric, and activities ie.. Boating, fishing, hiking, driving etc..
CC is a subjective thing.

I've had each of these; nice folders. Chart is "fixed."
I had to "snag" some data from the Benchmade website.
My apology.

...and Coop is right in that there are many factors, other than grip-width, that will determine which knife you will carry for any particular application. The "fattest" grip...the Adamas, is a great locking folder that would be welcome for woods-carry. And the Sage 2 has titanium scale texture that just feels great in my hands. However, my post opened with a statement that this thread would "look" at only one aspect...that of grip-width.

All opinions are welcomed. Thanx.
