So recently I was considering handle materials for my next blade, and it got me curious as to what materials everyone else prefers, and why we prefer them.

Personally I like using all sorts of things. I like synthetics (resins/Alumilite) for their stability and workability, and woods for their feel and natural beauty. I have only worked with maple and ironwood, and they are both nice, but very different. I can't say which I prefer at this point. I have my eye on some walnut and elm burls that I am looking forward to trying.

With so many options out there, I would love to hear what everyones preferred handle materials are and why you like them.

A variety of Handle materials like you... Stabilized & dyed woods are a fav! I do like Kirinite in MOP & many other color combo’s , it’s NSF rated so great for Culinary knives ..

micarta, G10, ironwood. those are the top 3 budget handle materials in my opinion. (home made micarta /g10 are not the same league). micarta and g10 are dimensionally stable, resistant to wear and dense. the density is what makes it shine and makes it tough. real ironwood is also very dense, it sinks like a stone in water, and termites will not even bother trying to bite it. ironwood fenceposts usually last over 100 years.
