Yeah, I know I'm on the passaround but I'm getting impatient. I was 30 seconds from ordering an L4 today, but the tailcap switch & anodzation problems kept me from completing the order.

What do you think, order or wait?

Order it. Mine is perfect - I don't see any reason to wait.

And while you're at it, you might as well get an E1E to go with it.

Are you wanting a flashlight to use or just to look at? The anodizing (problem) is totally cosmetic and the tail switch is a minor thing that can be corrected with a dose of white lightning in the action. I carry mine as an EDC and am totally satisfied with mine.BTW I have an E1e,E2e,KL1 head and an L6 and am very satisfied with all

I got a good 'un from 1SKS. Clickie worked itself in after a 20 or 30 on-off cycles.

I didn't believe the Luxeon hype, but it's a sweet light. Really nice flood, great run time, in a really small package. I've got an E2e HA, M3 w/HOLA, C2 HOLA, a bunch of G2's and 6Ps,6Z's (old skool!), SL Stinger & Scorpion, 20XP... the L4/5/6 are unique for the quality and "saturation" of light.

Not necessarily a blinding beam, not really a long throw, but for everything under 25ft. it's the bomb.

Kind of like carrying around a 110v twin tube flourescent work lamp, only smaller and without a cord.

I want it to fondle! Geeze what you think I wanted it for? :p

I called around, lotsa people out of stock.

AFAIK, Tactical Warehouse, TADGear, Bulldog Enterprises, and Meridian Tactical are all out of stock. Someone said that Surefire closed down for the holidays for inventory...so I hope they make them soon. I've had my L4 on order since the 20th of December.

Latest rumour is Surefire wont be making any flashlights at all for the first quarter of 2004, concentrating only on weaponlights. If you want one now, better hurry and find someone with it in stock.

So what are the online vendors going to do with their backorders? b/c that is BS from Surefire. If they are going to do that I'll just skip buying the damn thing and play with my SNII.

SureFire have not stopped manufacturing flashlights. Whoever posted that is having a laugh.

After quite a bit of mental resistance, I finally broke down and bought an L4. I was prepared to be disappointed, but the L4 turned out to be marvelous. The quantity, and the quality, of the light it produces is very impressive. Sure, it doesn't have the throw of the more powerful incandescents, but then again an incandescent would not give you that perfect white "wall of light" that characterizes the L4. I've taken mine night - hiking, and can tell you that it's excellent for this use. That brilliant white light illuminates the whole trail, plus a wide area on either side of the trail) and makes trail blazes and markers a breeze to find.

Get the L4. I finally broke down and got one from a fellow forumite. I was more than pleased w/ the A2 w/ red LED's I'd had for a couple of months beforehand. I've got white walls in my house, perfect for beam comparason. I first fired up the A2 and thought, yeah that's really good. Then I fired up the L4 and it were as if angels had infiltrated the room and blessed me! The whitness of the L4 is shocking, and the light is everywhere, all encompassing if you will. It's also thinner and shorter than tne A2. I still love the A2 for it's gadget factor, but the L4 now goes everywhere with me. I purposely left it on a lot in the first week to see how the regulation works, and even on low power, I still think it's better than the X5 I have, but then again, my X5 needs new batteries.

I've had mine for 5 months with no problems so far. Beam is perfectly white (though the white balance in the pic makes it look sorta blue) and super bright. The switch is A-OK, too.

This is what 5 months of EDC looks like:

There is a small nick in the anodization on the bezel - and I mean small. The pocket clip is still ridiculously tight, which I don't mind at all.

It's a really good light.
