get ready for fishing!

I fish the mississippi river alot for blue cats and those asian carp are quite dangerous. Last year i got slammed right in the side of the head by a 15 pounder, yea it felt like i got punched in the head pretty hard. It knocked me into my buddy who was driving the boat. I think i'll start wearing a football helmet. :D when i go fishing. I've caught a 63 pounder a 45 lb. and a 50lb blue on a piece of those fish i cut up. One things for sure bait is easy to get. :D:thumbup:

:eek:I had some great fishing days but those things were committing suicide!

doug i think you should wear a football helmet at ALL times.....i kid, I kid :D:p

It's really sad that this invasive species has taken over the river like that. You can't even take your boat out for a day of fishing anymore without worrying about a fish smacking your wife or kid in the head. I looked at the article about these on fish on wikipedia:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Asian_carp

Sounds like they are trying very hard to keep them out of the great lakes and had to poison a waterway to the tune of 90 tons of dead fish to do so. I wonder if someday these fish will be in all waterways. Hopefully not.

Dood, if I was out there, I would have me a real strong tennis racket, a short boat paddle or a good piece of 2x4, that is a cool video, they can cause some pretty detrimental injuries...

THats crazy. Ive seen em shootem with bow and arrows before. I always guessed they had a shocking system or something to get em to jump. I had no idea they just jump for no real reason!:D

Asian Carp are a plague.

Yeh, I was watching an outdoor channel not to long ago and they were showing these blooming things jumping right into the boat and or bashing into the people in the boats. Unreal for sure!!! I hope they keep the Great Lakes clear of the mangy buggers.

T, all it takes to get them to jump is the vibration of your motor. I've talked to a guy who was shooting them like skeet off the back of the boat with a 12ga. It's not really legal to do but it sounds like fun i think. They seem to hang out mostly in the shallow waters.
I've seen them on the missouri river also which i frequently fish too. They can be dangerous as i've heard of noses being broken and other body parts when hit by them. They seem to be highly sought after in asia for their meat which i've not yet tried.

One would think that you could get a boat with a pretty big frame with a net suspended over the back of the boat and drive around and pick em up. It'd at least keep their f'in population down some.

Hack em some Busse blades on the beach afterwards.

They have redneck asian carp fishing tournaments. A couple of people with a boat or even dozens of people with dozens of boats really doesn't do much to the Asian Carp numbers. There are just too many of them. In some of the major rivers, they've almost totally driven out the native species.

The big fear is that they will get into the great lakes. If they do, it will be over for the native fish species there in a very short time. It's something to watch, but in reality it isn't funny at all.
