Talk about non-cooperative birds.

There's a farm I hunt down in AL where I've spooked more birds than seems possible. The bastids won't gobble, and tend to come in quiet, so you just have to sit and yelp and wait.

First year I hunted there, I went in at dark and walked right under three on roost. They flew. I cursed. Next day, I called sporadically for over an hour at one spot. Decided to change locations, and when I stood up, the bird was right behind me. He flew. I cursed. Last year, I set up by a creek bed in the dark. Waited for light and began to yelp. After about an hour, I decided to shift around the tree and watch a different direction. Tom was roosting about 30 yards from me and watching me. He flew. I cursed.

Only bird I ever killed there, I heard gobble and then shut up. I waited about an hour and a half, yelping softly about every ten minutes. He finally cruised on in silently and I nailed him at about 30 yards. Pictured below. A two-year-old with a couple of beards.

Quietest dang birds I've ever fooled with. Must be a lot of predators around there.

I hope the luck is with you! Just watched about 6 or 7 jakes scrounging my feed for the wild birds in the front yard and 1 hen is walking by now! Ct Has a population you would not beleive, 25 years ago we had none, New York gave us birds to restart and now they are common everywhere a wildlife sucess story! Its pretty sad that we have so many, that people beleive them to be stupid, where i grew up in the mountains of central Pa. only the best hunters ever brought home birds on a regular basis!! We probably have less chickens now! Wild peacock flocks abound also!

No I did not mistakenly resurrect this thread from the dead. :o

There's nothing to see here. You are getting very sleepy. :p

I did see some turkeys today though. knife hunter, this is for you.

Click image below for some video. Saw 19 toms. Not a hen or jake in sight. Just a big boy's club.

I am from PA. In PA the Turkeys are very careful. Now I live in Fl, in FL the turkeys flock in the middle of the street. Odd.
