We have been making tools to start making some axes. Pretty low tech :D A hardy jig to hold the head while you split the face for the high carbon steel bit(with the handled hot cut) to be welded in. A new hot cut made from coil spring to hot slit the eye and a new drift we forged to match factory available handles. We could have used other drifts but then it would have been a special fit handle. This way if someone breaks a handle they can just buy one just like the one laying there instead of making a special fit handle from scratch. We plan on making some of our handles out of curly maple, birds eye maple and the like as well.

If you could make one about the same size and design as the old Norlunds I'd buy one.

They were just handy as all get out and worked real well chocked up on for carving work.

Well we tried out a few sizes of metal today for a single bit belt axe and feel we may have the range on a good size. Gonna order some 4140 and some 1018 steel tonight for heads. Some folks like the welded in bit and some like that mono steel alloy head so we will make some both ways.;) Gonna order a few chunks to try on a double bit too..
