Getting 3 Mora's - Help me Decide :) ?

Ok, I got the 515 (I think) the red one, and I have one of those Marttiinni knives with the nice leather pouch. I really liked the More especially since it cost me $8. Well I tend to collect knives once I get one good one I want the others that are good. I also like camping, backpacking, and fishing. I occasionally hunt but not often.

So I plan on getting 2 more Mora's (each must be below $35, only one I'm considering above $18 or so is in the 2000 series I think which is $35.)

I've also looked at the #1, #731, #840, #860

Could anyone point me in the right direction? I like black, brown, and grey btw, but it's ok if the knife isn't.

I appreciate any help guys. Figure I'll get myself another Christmas present!

Someone told me to definitely get the #1 (I already have the red 515 though) and the #840. I'm not sure the difference between the 840 and 860 are though.

I'd go over to Smokey Mountain Knifeworks and look at the carbon Clipper for $8.99 and the Craftline All Around for $11.99 and the Triflex for $20.

I just read about deal spotting. Looks like I did it above. Won't do it again. You can also get equal deals to above at Ragners or Ben's or from many others right here!

Thanks, I was just over there. I'll take a look around for those, thanks again.

ok so I think I'm settled on the (1 or 2, still figuring out the difference), and the Mora Clipper (#840MG).

Any additional help on to get the 1 or 2; and I'm looking for a large blade mora also but they all look about 4inches. I'l like something over 5 and a bit wider to at least be able to baton small logs.

Oh this could be good - "#731 allaround knife with a 5 3/4” long, .098” thick carbon steel blade". I think it's between that and this now - Mora Craftline Allround Top Q

My favorites are the 510 and the Clippers. Since the 510 is no longer made, I'll order some 511 knives and grind off the guards.

The 700 series are nice too. I've owned about 14 to 15 Moras, maybe more, and most have been given as gifts. People think they're cheap, but they soon find out how useful they are.

I figure by the time a guy starts paying $30 bones for a Mora (i.e. the 2000), he's better off saving a little more and getting a Buck, or a Bark River, or...........

yea hopefully the knife company doesn't get greedy and start marking up all their prices. They may as well make a few higher dollar knives for people who love collecting them.

I already have the #511, now I'm going to get the #780 Craftsman Triflex and the #840-MG Clipper.

The Bushcraft Forest has a similar blade as the 2000, and fitted in a more modern handle. Check it out, it's quite convincing.

I have both of those. I'm not sure I could choose a favorite between the two. In fact, while my favorite utility of them all is the 510, not a single Mora has been disappointing.

well, I just posted this topic in another forum, maybe you guys can shed some light on the rust issue.

Carbon Steel Moras - how much cleaning maintinence do they need so they won't rust? I don't want my new mora to sit in its case and take it out and it's fully rusted. I have some gun oil, should I just wipe that on with a paper towel?

And what happens when it does rust? How do I fix it?

WMC, a couple of things. Generally, for me anyway, the Mora is a working knife, meaning they usually end up being stored in areas where I use them. There's one in my truck, work truck, wife's car, in the shop, outside hanging from the chicken's pen gate post, and a couple of other places. So, they get used alot. Now, outside especially, I put the stainless there, but even inside a carbon can begin to rust.

So, I wipe mine down after each use. No oil or wax, though you can if it's your way to do so. Most of my carbons have a forced patina on them (apple vinegar or apple vinegar and cold blue 50/50), so they're fine even sitting in their plastic sheaths for a long time without use. But really, they get used alot for all kinds of stuff, so they get a quick wipe or even a soap/HOT water cleaning sometimes. No rust issues yet. Some are going on 4 years old.

If you get a littel rust on them, you can buff with steel wool, or 800 wet/dry sandpaper or finer, use Flitz cotton, or even buff with a muslim wheel and some compound. Best thing though, for carbon, is maybe a little vinegar (or other) patina.

thanks for those pictures and comments Stretch, that sounds good. And also thanks to Kuruptd, I forgot that mineral oil would be best if I ever cut an apple or meat with it.
