Hello all-

I've got a a 4.5" fixed blade that just wont sharpen. I've tried a great many things, but can't change the grind or make it cut well. I do not have access to a belt sander unfortunately, so I can't do much in the way of 'heavy' alteration.

Is there a common local resource to get a blade reprofiled? Or to whom would you send a blade to have this done, and in what range would the price tag be?

Thanks for any thoughts.

Hello,

Just about any of the knifemakers over on the custom makers forum can help you and they'll all do a great job but the one I recommend is Scott Tanguay. That's because I've had personal experience with him.
Scott has reprofiled and sharpened (3) of my knives and does fantastic work. He's also made me a beautiful Nessmuk style knife and he has a great "turn around" time.
He goes by Tanguay Custom Knives here on the forums.
Check him out. I'm sure you won't be disappointed

Here's a link to his webpage.

before you spend a fortune having a custom knife maker sharpen it try spending about 37$ (once) and buy yourself a lansky 5 stone sharpener and give it a try. why have a knife if you can't sharpen it. if it is difficult to sharpen then it is probably either a really good steel or pakistani steel that rolls over constantly.
