Getting a Francesca

I've been thinking- what I want for my next edged tool/toy is a francesca. Not a historically accurate one, of course. Rather than iron I want one made with sturdy steel.

I want something that is good quality but I'm not going to spend $400 on something that likely won't get any use besides getting thrown at trees.

Who all makes them? I know hanwei makes one that looks cool but I don't know anything about its quality.

Ok I'll broaden the subject- has anyone here ever owned a paul chen hanwei axe of any kind?

I've used a few Paul Chen/Hanwei swords and they have been great. Their axe's/Hawks look pretty good too IMO. Don't think you can go wrong with any of their blades. Have been thinking of getting an axe from them.

I've also been thinking about getting one of their swords. Maybe the side sword.

I'm putting an axe first in the queue because I can at least pretend like I might do some real work with it. It's harder to convince myself that I'll ever be out in the woods using a sword to clear a trail.

Allan Foundry makes a francisca. I've seen it for sale on two sites.

I can definitely recommend Ragnar (ragweedforge) as I've purchased knifes from him in the past, but I've also heard good things about track of the wolf.
Might want to add if you get it from ragweed forge it will come sharpened, trackofthewolf is not sharpened.

I forgot about Ragweed's selection of axes. Thanks for the tip. I think I prefer the styling of that one over Hanwei's.

How does a cast steel axehead compare to a forged one? I don't know anything about Allan Foundry's 410 steel but I don't even know what steel hanwei uses in their francesca.
