Getting a Handle on Things...

Let's get a grip here, people! :D

1. What is your favourite handle/scale material for your EDC knives? Is it wood or jigged bone? Micarta or G-10? Maybe you dig smooth plain steel or milled titanium? Perhaps a grippy FRN? Is a paracord wrap your thing or do you prefer a flashy pearl/abalone scale or sleek and sexy carbon fibre? Do you like the option to swap your scales? What say you?

2. Which knife sports *your* most favourite handle of all-time? It's all about the handle here: comfort, grip, material, overall feel in the hand...

I like different handle materials for different reasons. Some practical, some purely aesthetics, and some for both..:D

Interesting thread tho...

G10>Titanium>Wood

I have some Emersons that have pretty good ergos. Maybe the CQC-8. The one that has the best combo IMO is .........

GOOD QUESTION / THREAD. The handle of the knife must fit like a glove and be comfortable . I have moved on plenty of knives because they just felt all wrong. At present g10 handle material , manix 2 , comfort , grip, overall best fitting knife to date for me FARON

My favorite handle material is G10, followed closely by Micarta. It doesn't mean I don't buy any other material, it's just that my first preference is G10.

That's a very pretty Sebbie you have there, fella! Very nice indeed!

I too like G-10 on my EDCs (so far,) but I'm itching to try out a nice micarta* and my first carbon fibre (Spyderco Sage 1) has yet to arrive. So, I suppose the jury's still out for now... :o I also like the in-hand feel of the Trac-Tec inserts on my Kershaw Blur, but it sure clings to the pocket when clipped--kind of a downer. The clip *is* pretty tight, though, and maybe pocket-draw will be a little easier if I bend it out some...

This might sound odd, but I'm still impressed by my Delica 4's handle. Even though it's simple FRN, the bi-directional texturing is simply awesome for wet or dry hands, and I like how I can get a full grip on the handle. A fantastic little knife!

*If anyone has any suggestions for a good EDC folder with micarta scales, I'd like to hear them!--Many thanks in advance...

I thought I experienced all that G-10 had to offer... until I picked up a Para 2 the other day. Wow! Fantastic G-10 and the amazing ergonomics make the Para 2 the new 'king of comfort' in my collection. Great knife!

For an every day user or work knife I generally like Aluminum best. Not too heavy, not too rough, not too expensive, and sturdy as hell.

The most comfortable handle I've ever felt was hands down a Benchmade Presidio with machined aluminum handles. Shame I had problems with the rest of the knife, because I have yet to see its equal when it comes to comfy handles.

I like micarta and FRN for modern folders, jigged bone or smooth G10 for traditional folders, and micarta or polypropylene on fixed blades/choppers. :)

Could not agree more. I like AL for folders and wood for fixed. But you absolutely cannot beat a sturdy aluminum knife :)

At least for me:

1. Bead blasted Titanium (think Sebenza and Umnumzaan)
2. Micarta
3. G10

Given a choice, I prefer natural materials such as in this case, Asian Water Buffalo and Elk.
