Getting a knife into Canada

I have a friend that has a small cottage in Canada and loves to fish and hike while he is there.

For a Christmas, I would like to buy him a nice fixed blade knife. Today we were talking and he said that he cannot get a knife over 6" total length over the boarder. If this is true, is there another way to get the knife legally into Canada.

Thanks

There are no blade length or overall length regulations in Canada. There are municipal bylaws regarding carry in some places, but there are absolutely no laws about length in the Criminal Code of Canada.

He can bring any fixed blade he wants to across the border (as long as it doesn't have a knuckle guard, or is a push dagger).

Fixed blades are no problem here at all, any length is good to go, double or single edged from 1inch long to full length swords.

Problem knives are switchblades, gravity knives, throwing stars, belt buckle knives, and push daggers.

Alot of things can be how the knife is transported and refered to.

If he has a "fishing knife" that he keeps in his tackle box, that is unlikely to bring up any more questions from a border agent.

this will rest on the shoulders of the officer you deal with. as has been stated knife laws in canada general fall to the interpretation of use by the police officer.

best option is to call ahead to the precint that your buddy lives in...get them to email u message saying its all gravy...i have done this before with an officer in Reidsville, Georgia, USA and customs gave me no hasel.

ure always in a good spot when uve talked to someone in the system..as they can now fight for u!
