So, I was on the waiting list for a Linger WSK for a while, but he finally called and said he was ready to make my knife!!
 :D

I had an idea of what I wanted but then started to feel indecisive when he called and we began to talk about the options.

My initial desire was for a Blued and bead blasted blade finish with a dark green/black micarta handle.

I must admit I am starting to feel unsure (guess I didn't think too hard about it the first time around) about it now that it is actually about to be made. Should I go with something more show(y) or functional (I know will I use it or not? Hard to say, I want to use it and I may just keep it for display but it either way, my needs won't push me one way or the other.) Well I am still pretty sure this the options I want, but was wondering what you guys thought.

Here are some of his site pics.

Now, about the steel. Roger says usually the steel used is 1075 or 01, which if it were up to him he use 1075 on it.

I really have limited knowledge about steels, esp. 01 steel. I know many prefer D2 on this set up as well. Any suggestions on this?

Thanks for any help guys.

Sounds like a good choice for this style of knife. I would pick functionality over show on this one.

It's Your Knife. Go with Fit, Form and Function that you intend for it.
Roger makes a knife that can be used and displayed, they are the same. If you are spending that kind of Cash, (you better use it). Either way you are going to have one outstanding blade.

1075 is a good steel, but every knife I have owned with an O-1 steel blade has been a fine cutter, and when big enough, a very good chopper. It is an easy to sharpen steel, that when properly heat-treated, holds an edge really well. O-1 is a very good carbon steel, and would be my personal choice between those two.

If Roger is more comfortable with 1075, he should work with that steel. However, I am sure that if he offers the choice of those two steels, that he will equally comfortable working with either one.

If you haven't already, it is my recommendation that you ask Roger why he recommends the 1075. He may have good reason to be making the recommendation.

Thanks guys, I got an email from him saying that it wouldn't make much of a difference to him which steel to use, he like them both.

I will try to look into the 0-1 and see what the difference may be between the two.

Man just hope my tax return comes in quick!

I'm sure the 1075 is a good steel but if it were me, i'd go with the O1. Like Keith said, O1 takes a fine edge and holds it well.
