Hello there,

I'm sure there are a thousand of these threads here, but mine is a little particular. I am trying to hand finish my EDC knife and I successfully removed the black coating but wanted to get that nice satin/mirror finish. My dilemma is that I only have sandpaper in grits of: 60, 100, 150, 600, and 1000

Now 150 to 600 seems like a big jump, but I would like to see what I can do with what I have before the night ends. Is there a certain pattern that I'm supposed to do: example being circles, up and down, only up or only down, side to side? I'd like to make the blade look as nice as possible with what I have, so any and all help would be appreciated.

Just pick a direction you like and stick with it

As for sandpaper you can just use 600 and 1000, I used 400 and 600 on my bm42 and it turned out ok

Get rid of all the ruff spots then tape a fine grit paper to the edge of the table/bench and pull the knife towards you, lift then pull it again until you get the look you want, keep it straight when you pull it across the paper.

Is it possible to remove the scales of your edc. I have trouble getting scratches off after attaching the scales on a knife. It is hard to make it look like it was before the accidental scratch.

I usually work the blade to 1000 or 1500. Then I use 800 or 600 to get the satin finish.

As in numerous threads I have read, use long even strokes along the whole length of the blade. Take 4-5 passes then change to an unused part of the sand paper. I usually don't use any lubricant for this process.

You may want to try it on some scrap just to get a feel for it.

Have fun.

Ric
