hello all, great forum here
i want to get a pocket knife for everyday cary.
i want the blade around 2"
one hand opening
and it must be legal in Canada
would like to spend around $20-40 but will pay up to 100 if its exeptionally good

the only thing i found on laws in canada
"prohibited weapon" means
(a) a knife that has a blade that opens automatically by gravity or centrifugal force or by hand pressure applied to a button, spring or other device in or attached to the handle of the knife, or ........
from http://laws.justice.gc.ca/en/C-46/35664.html
any1 know what size of blade is legal to cary?

i really like Kershaw Ken onion chive but i dont think is legal in canada cus it has a spring.......
is it legal?

gerber chameleon is pretty good for $20, is it 1 hand opener?

so please recommend a knife for me to get and/or a place with good prices
to get from

thanks, l8ts

The most bang for the buck belongs to the Spyderco Calypso jr.lwt.. It's a one hand opening ,socially acceptable,
lockback, flat ground Vg-10 steel wonder knife. It will do work much larger than it's size with great ease. Hold
an edge with the best of them and out cut all the rest. It cost a bit more than $20 but will be the best money
spent by a very long ways. Try one first and you'll find you needn't look any further and waste money searching.
Good Luck!

Get yourself a Spyderco LW Dyad, Jr. I received one from a trade yesterday, and that is one EXCELLENT little dual-blade folder! It doesn't have a pocket-clip, which makes it a TRUE "pocket-knife".:).

The Calypso Jr.'s blade is a bit longer than the requirement of 2" inches or so. It is a great little knife, however, look at the Spyderco Mouse. Falls within the upper limit price range, great shape and ergonomics, great steel. The Mouse is a really neat small knife that will out work MUCH larger knives. This would be my choice hands down.

If you're going to limit the blade to 2 inches, you can't beat the mouse.

I'm disappointed that the Delta-Z closeout store doesn't have their lockbacks. I had the credit card ready...

I agree with the Dyad Jr.
Small enough, a serrated blade and a plain edge blade, and one hand opening to boot!

Or maybe a Kershaw DoubleCross (I'm not sure of the blade length).

I would suggest you take a look at the CRKT Apache III at Smoky Mountain Knife Works: http://eknifeworks.com/webapp/eCommerce/index.html

This knife is about the size of a typical pocket knife, yet has a clip and thumbstuds. Unfortunately, they only have the partially serrated blade at their closeout price of $15. Believe the original price at Web sites was around $50. Maybe a little less. The Apaches all have ATS34 blade steel, and hard anodized aluminum handles. Personally, I think this knife is cute as can be, and meets all your requirements.

SMKW has the Apache II in both plain edge and fully serrated edge, for $20, but the blade is up around 3" long. The Apaches are all fairly long and quite slim in design, making at least teh two smaller models look a bit smaller than they really are.

I don't know about the clip -- or if there is one -- but the new MicroTech "wallet knife" the Option II could fit your needs. It is very unusual looking, but seems potentially very useful to me. MT's quality is always top notch. The Mouse is probably more versatile, but the gee whiz factor of the Option is really up there -- if you like it. Am sure many won't.

Knife Center of the Internet, and 1SKS (home here) have about the widest selections of knives to be found with pictures and usually a fair amount of information about the knives. 1SKS is better about the info, and probably a bit lower cost. And, buying from them is supporting Spark and these forums. Just click "Store" at the top of any page.

Another vote for the CRKT Apache III. I can't believe that I paid about $50 bucks for mine!

I have the model with the combo edge. It is about 70/30 plain to serrated. I think this is the best proportion around.

My only disappointment with this knife is that I have found that I do not like the "bead blast" finish. It grimes up quickly and does not clean well IMO. Someday, I am going to grind down the bead blast to a satin finish.

Check out the CRKT Lightfoot Urban Shark (L.U.S.). 1SKS has the smaller version for $26.99. I bought the larger (plain edge) for my wife's uncle last Xmas and he hasn't stopped carrying the thing since. It is dress up, dress down, and yes his work knife too. He just loves it and it was worth every penny. For these prices this knife just can't be beat.

*Note- I pointed out the smaller version due to your blade length limitation but I would rather recommend the larger one as it is still a small knife but has a great feel in the hand.

Kershaw's knives ARE legal in canada. They use a TORSION bar, not a spring.

My Spyderco Wegner Jr, 2.875" blade, opens faster than my Kershaw Boa though.
