Getting a sgian dubh made in Korea?

First, let me apologize if this is in the wrong place on this forum. :( I just joined and I'm not quite sure where to post it.

My friend needs a Scottish sgian dubh blade made for his formal kilt outfit. We live in Korea and I live in Seoul. I'm thinking there might be someone in the Itaewon area (which is near the Army base, so there might be a blade maker nearby).

If anyone has any idea where there is a reputable blade maker who could make a sgian dubh for him. I would appreaciate you letting me know.

Thanks in advance. :)

Trisak is in Thailand and can make pretty well anything. Beautiful craftsmanship.

I bought mine from a kilt hire shop in Toronto, Canada. You can buy online. Mine is number 3, in the top picture.

First off, welcome to the forums. Second, i highlighted the important part of your question.;)

The sgian dubh is a Scottish knife, and your friend needs it for his formal kilt outfit (I assume he has his clans proper tartan colors) than would you really want to insult him by giving him a blade that was not made in Scotland?;) Maybe I'm just odd, but a sgian dubh made anywhere else just seems strange to me, like a Samurai using a katana that was made in US. How can one make a knife if one does not understand the culture and history of the knife.

Just my thoughts, but please excuse my rudeness, it's late here, and I'm a little tired:o

He definitely has his colors, kilt and all the regalia except for a sgian dubh.

I know what a the blade is (he explained it and it did some research on the net on what it was). However, he's already gotten holiday gifts from me; this will be on his dime :p If it were on my dime, I'd probably contact his family and have someone mail it to me here - granted, he could do the same thing. It's just that he and I were talking about it, we're going to a Scottish formal together soon, and he was wondering if he could get one made here. I guess I'm the more industrious of the two and I decided that someone on the net might be able to help.

I agree that it's probably best just to order it and have it shipped here. But I figure it never hurts to ask to see if someone knew of a blade maker that was local.

So thanks for your reply, and no offense taken...

Not sure, but I'll forward these links to him, so he can figure out what he'd like to do.

Thanks very much!
