Getting a sheath made

Hi, I have a DeLeon fixed blade knife and would like to get a custom made sheath for it. It has a 7 1/8" blade. I'm interested in a western stlye to go on my gunbelt. The makers I have been finding all want me to send them my knife. I had a sheath made a few years ago for a #1 Randall, I sent the maker good photos, measurements and an accurate blade traceing and it worked out great but he doesn't make the style I want for this knife. Is it unreasonable to ask a maker to do the job without sending my knife? I've had all kinds of problems with shippers before (lost or damaged items) If the maker was close enough to drive it there and then pick it up I would be ok with that. I'm in NJ and a hundred mile drive would be worth it to me.
Thanks
Jim
