Getting a tip back

So I my Izzy 2 recently fell off my neck into the sink (about 1 foot) and it would seem I've smashed the tip up a bit. It's barely visible to the naked eye however the tip is extremely dull. Can it be sharpened back to a pin on a my sharpmaker if I lay the stones flat or no? Let me know if you want pics. Thank you :)

Pics always help, but yes, you can restore a tip that way. The easiest method is to simply grind the spine until the tip is pointed again, it will probably take very little. That wasn't much of a drop.

Sandpaper on a hard, flat surface is what you want for tips.
I always maintain the tips on my knives with sandpaper of various grits. Keeps them pointy.:)

Yup, sandpaper will work just fine as well, or a diamond plate. Just want to avoid doing that on a waterstone, since it tends to concentrate a lot of force into one area and will cut a groove in it. I used my DMT plate to do that when I was hand sharpening more. When I sharpen knives for people down at the shop, I typically use just a single swipe with one of the finer belts to put that needle back onto the tip. Unless it's a coated blade, then I don't do anything with it unless they specifically ask me to, of course.

wait a minute before grinding the spine on a coated blade. i'm pretty sure it's overkill, this is the best way to restore a severely damaged tip, if you can't even see the blunting and that it just isn't sharp anymore just spend some time on your sharpmaker as usual paying close attention to that part and you'll be good. it may take like 3-4 sharpening to get it back if you don't want to take the time at once but it'll get back.

the tip on my izula is pretty robust, it should endure a 1 foot drop on a hard surface without needing anything but a good sharpening imho.
