Getting an Mnandi, some general questions...

I believe its going to take 6-8 weeks for it to come in. In the past, I've only had Spyderco knives (a cricket and a navigator). I've got a bad habit of using pocket knives on food when not at the dinnertable. How do you guys keep your blades clean? Anything anti-bacterial that suitable for blades? Any links on things that are harmful to the blade?

2nd question is are there any personalization options available on the Mnandi? I wanted to get an Umfaan, but currently not available.

Thanks!

Adnan

Adnan,

As far as protecting the blade because you want to use it on food; light vegetable oil works well. The Mnandi comes with a blade made of S30V stainless steel. Very good stuff and very corrosion resistant. As long as you clean the blade after use on food with just water and a dry towel, you should have no problem.

If you don't want to wait for a Mnandi or Umfaan, go to www.truenorthknives.com or www.knifeart.com. Both of these sites have a huge selection of both knives in stock.

Hope this helps.:)

That Damascus Snakewood Mnandi at True North is beautiful. What a work of art.:) All of the Mnandis are beautiful, but this one is my favorite. Maybe somedday.

For knives used around food, try mineral oil from the pharmacy section of the food market.

Adnan - good to see you over here. I'm a newbie over here myself. The Mnandi is a great knife and worth the wait. I too am looking forward to adding one to my "collection"!

I just purchased this wonderfull knife at True North. After seeing it pictured on their web site I could not resist. What an elegant way to start a Reeve collection! I'm hooked!

Jazz1,
If you'd rather "practice carry" using a regular blade with Bocote wood I'd be happy to swap for a while. :) :D Just thought I'd try to help. Congratulations.

I was told that I could carry the Mnandi in my shirt pocket and it would look like a pen. What I really need in my office is a big pen that looks like a knife to keep the ignorant at bay;)

Thanks for the offer RevJim. I may need to take you up on that if my co-workers don't smarten up over the weekend.

The nibs on some of my fountain pens are fairly large, but, unless held like a knife wouldn't scare anyone away. Of course the ignorant are a great challenge - they either know no fear or fear everything. I've been afraid to carry my mnandi in my shirt pocket much. I have carried it in my inside coat pocket a few times (like when I'm ashamed to put another knife in my pants pocket). I hate to leave my toys at home.;)
