Getting Blades to Atlanta

From the pics I've seen of past years I see that many of you bring a prized blade to Atlanta for the FOGO feast and to show the other HOGS. What is the best way to get blades down to GA? I don't plan on checking any baggage and given the current state of air travel, I don't think bringing a large blade (or any blade) on the plane would be well received. And not for nothing but I don't necessarily trust the baggage staff either. Too many stories about having stuff stolen. So, do you ship them to the hotel? Check the baggage and take the chance? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
 
I think shipping to a hotel would be what most do. Not sure if you can ship to a post office/or UPS/Fed-Ex type storefront. That would be ideal.
 
I've checked mine in the past -- no troubles yet (but I've done a lot of praying over those bags!) But I've never really taken any of my most prized knives.

I'm considering driving this year for that very reason...
 
If you ship to the hotel some thing you need to do.

1. ship to the name exactly as it is on the reservation don't use Bill if William is on the credit card the reservation is under.

2. call the hotel a day or so before it gets there and tell them you have a package coming for hold. Remember you don't have your room yet so its not going there.

3. insure it

4. If you can get a name by calling the hotel some will some won't send it to that person c/o the hotel address
 
I pack all my knives in a carry-on sized suitcase, tie it up tight with rope, put it in a box w/ shoes, jackets, etc., take pics of everything as it goes in, place a large note on top of everything that says all contents are documented, and then tape up the box and tie a nylon rope around the box for security and to use as a handle. Then it's off with the rest of the checked luggage.

It may be extreme, but it worked okay last year to and from Blade.

Getting blades to Atlanta is easy! You simply mail them to me. Into my safe they'll go. And then I get to keep them. In return, you'll receive my heart-felt thanks and warm appreciation.
 
Don't listen to moonwilson. Sounds like some kind of scam.

Instead, just ship all your INFI to me. I'll take care of the rest.
 
I will be driving to Blade from Birmingham. If anyone wants to ship their knives to me, I will transport them to Atlanta in reasonable quantities. (They must share available space with luggage and Kim's wheelchair.) I have done this for a couple of people in the past.

I think it's wise to listen to Boss Hog on this one. In other words none of you stand a chance of getting my blades in the mail. I may be a piglet, but I'm not stupid. Nice try:D :D :D

But if anyone wants to send me a knife I will take it to blade for you. No prob.
