I was thinking of maybe taking a big catalog to work and see if anyone would like me to order them a knife, Has anyone tryed doing this ? If so was there any luck in it ??

I would not do it that way. THeyu would fisrt have to be convinced that it would be worth it to them to spend the money on something better.

What happened with me was that I carried better knives with me at work, let my coworkers see and use them, and after awhile they had bought themselves better knives with my help.

I've done that in the past and everytime they want me to foot the bill first, than they want the knife for the price in the catalog, which is fine, but they never want to pay shipping and handling.

Or they bring back the knife all buggered up and and say they want their money back.

There are only 2 or 3 guys I'll order knives for, with them I've never had a problem, sometimes I'll get a good deal on a bunch of close outs, like the Delta Z 360's MSRP $89, I bought them for $9.99 and sold them for $20, everyone was happy.:D

Where I work according to the company hand book, I'm s'posed to be immediately terminated for even having a knife on my person. One of them post 9/11 changes to make us all safer I guess...

Anyhoo, that never prevented me from carrying my AFCK, SOG multitool, and a neck knife of some sort. (currently a Bud Nealy Pesh Kabz)

When I first started out there I was the only one carrying a knife. wound up gettin' called all over the place to loan it out or cut things for people.

Now all my co-workers are doing the exact same thing. Difference is that they either don't want to spend the money I do on the knives, or more likely the case, they just can't friggin' afford to.

But it's cool...I've gotten them interested in knives, no longer have to run around lending mine out all the time, and now if they decide to can me for having an every day tool on my person, they're gonna be lookin' at canning about 2/3 of the guys at that post, which...quite bluntly the company simply cannot afford.

There is one guy however...(work around him, different company) that I've gotten majorly hooked on knives. He's currently carrying a Vanhoy he bought off me, my old La Griffe (which I miss) a couple of Spydies, and a Fred Carter.

Best bet me thinks is to simply enjoy what you have, and then if they ask questions, be ready to answer them, no matter how insipid the question. (And I've heard some doozies)

It seems to work based on matching the knife quality/price to the situation. I took a semi-dealers catalog and sold the snot out of Frost with some nice country boys at a plant we worked. We all split out our costs and paid up ahead. Those were good days.
If you're just trying to meet a minimum order it becomes bargain hunting - the ladies understand better, especially before Christmas. If you're trying to make a profit it may be restricted at work - and there's enough ball team pizza sales and Girl Scout cookies as it is. Go easy.

hey DEA,
I'm thinking of ordering some knives from an online dealer soon - wanna order anything and split the shipping?

IMO I wouldn't order anything for them, isn't that what catalogs are for? Let them dial 1-800-whatever
If you do the ordering for them, chances are that if something isn't perfect they will hold you responsible. And THAT is a headache you probably don't want.
Just my $0.02

Most people where I work that are not into knives can't believe anyone would pay more than $10 or $20 for a knife.

Whats funny they will pay me $5 to sharpen some cheap knife a dozen times and can't get it through their head they should have spent some of that money on a good quality knife to begin with and there would have been a whole lot less sharpening needs.

i get all my knives from sheares :)
have you gone down to take a look?
they have very reasonable prices (factoring in shipping and handling)
and you get great service support along with the knife

their website is http://www.sheares.com
if you want to talk to them, call 63330138 and ask for william or jason and just ask them for directions or just to ask about what they have in stock or not
they'll order in stuff for you too

another risk about ordering from online stores is singapore customs MIGHT impound your knives, such as kershaw assisted opening knives

Boy,T.Erdelyi,I can relate to what you said.I once rounded up from $10.75 to $11.One guy was pissed that I made .25 cents on the deal.Never mind I spent about one hundred bucks on ten close outs that i was not sure I'd sell.Forget about the fact that I KNEW that CRKT Mirages at 11 bucks was A GREAT DEAL FOR HIM.

Listen get a Smokey Mountain catalog wait for good close outs add on the shipping and MOST should be happy.BTW they have Gerbers sl somehthing for $16 right now,g-10,ats 34 etc.

I must have gotten knives for a couple dozen of my fellow firemen, one or two will be jerks, most are very pleased and some will become knife guys themselves.:)

I like the close outs cause I can buy them with the knowledge that I'll be able to at least get my money back eventually.

I have even started picking up dealer catalogs, even though they cost me a couple of bucks, they either have a MSRP listed or a separate price sheet, which allows them to pick what they like, and for me to get back to them with a price later.

I aint lookin to make any money . just to get atleast 2 or 3 guys to use a real knife . Maybe even become a mutible buyer like myself . This One guy had a really nice spyderco and a buck he lost the spyderco and broke the buck , now he has a 3 dollar knife :(

Sadly where I work knives are truly frowned upon. My old boss did'nt have a problem with my folders but the new boss came and did not want to have any of it. I work with only your typical sheeples. Still carry an assortment of folders but I can never use them.

What are good catalogs though to show people, I know about AG Russel and bestknives, what else can I order to show people, that has high quality stuff in it as well...Not manufacturers catalogs, but catalogs from dealers...

On this topic, my coworkers (LEOs as well) all feel that for duty use a mag light and a smith and wesson KNOCKOFF is just fine, maybe a Fury or Mirage brand (not CRKT mirage).

They don't see eye to eye with me, think that duty gear isn't all that important...They are confused as to why I carry a Microtech UMS auto or a MOD Trident for my duty knife, with a Streamlight Stinger on my belt, and a Surefire M2 as well...

I feel like I should use the best gear I can find, hate to get hurt or worse in the line of duty because I was cheap on my equipment.
