So im probably getting a custom shop 110 for my dads 50th. He is a huge buck fan and edc's a 501 for the last..15 or 20 years now. I wanted to get him something special, but something he wont be afraid to use and carry either.

I just was wondering if anyone had any pictures of some of the handle materials offered on their site, namely the asain waterbuffalo and koa flamewood. is the waterbuffalo just plain black or is there any figuring of any kind in it? not the best picture on their site.

also is with worth the extra 18 bucks to get the s30v over the 420hc. he is pretty old school, i duno if he would noticeably appreciate one of these new super steels.

Mine has a couple small swirls of white in it...

Yes. *If* it's only $18... :)

Some of the Custom Shop "options" are totally unrealistic (like the Sambar Stag)...

He'll like a CS110 esp if he's a Buck man.

Blade: I say yes, get the S30V. It is the current super steel created specifically for cutlary. It is harder to sharpen but if he keeps it touched up regularily and never really dulls it (takes much much longer) he'll be fine with it.

Buff: Mostly it black but it will have some white veining or marbling in it. Very nice material. Call and order directly from Liz and ask her to ask the CS for a set of scale with veining if that's how you go.

KOA: Pretty but the wood picks up polishing paste which is black. The operator has to be very careful. I got one that was good and one that was blacked up badly enough to be replaced.

Recommend you look at Ram too, its super handle material and only $13 more than the KOA which is beautiful but risky.

Here are a few pics:
Some of my CS110s. That's g10 on the bottom not buff. Ram, KOA is 2nd & 3rd down

chickentrax: lol our usernames are kind of similar. but anyway. i agree, i know he'll love the stag but damn on their site its like 140 bucks (no pun intended) or something, and im sorry but that just is not worth it.

flatlander: thanks for the pictures that helps me out alot. how can i get in touch with this liz, just call buck up and ask for her? and i forgot about the ram, thats a definite possibility i know he'd enjoy that as well. so now its between the ram and the buffalo. hmmmmm. edit: dang you snagged that stag 110 from me in the exchange=P nice pick up.

redrummd: just checked out your site, man those are some truly beautiful knives. unfortunately i dont have the cash to drop on one of those right now, poor college student haha=/

Chickeneye,

Send me a PM about contacting Liz.

Bear's stag/420HC...actually I should thank you for asking him a question late in the night because that put his thread at the top of the sale forum. Bear has a tendency to sale some of his Buck collection on that forum instead of the Buck sale forum and I rarely look at that one. Since it was top tread it was showing on the home page when I logged in this morning early. Otherwise I'd have never seen it. So yea thanks man.

For that money you really want to get your Dad a Custom Shop knife in Ram, Brass, S30V, and rivets. FG's if he likes those. You having one special built for him will be all the more better. If you go Buffalo go nickel silver for sure.

I gave my Dad a CS112's for Christmas and he was most impressed I had it built just for him...that it was a Custom and only one of about 100 built.

Good Luck. g
