Getting into exotic steel. Difficulty of modding question

Just getting into exotic steels. Got the BHQ Manix2 in 52100 steel and Grey G10 scales. Love the form factor, ergos, and haven't yet worn the knife due to it being to heavy in the pocket. Just ordered Manix 2 LW in Maxamet and I will see how it carries. I'm pretty sure it will be awesome due to the lighter weight as that's the only negative I could find.

Here's my dilema, I wold love to transplant the 52100 blade into a LW scale. Problem i'm discovering is that the LW are riveted. What a bummer.

My plan is to swap out black 52100 blade into LW Grey scale, and the Maxamet Satin blade into a black LW scale. The black BD-1 Loaner LW blade would go into the Grey G-10 scales of and probably sell.

I've disassembled many knives and it's pretty easy to put back (delica, Para3, and Mini-Grip). If on a scale of 1-10 difficulty of disassembly with screws is a 2, what's the difficulty of drilling out rivets without a drill press?

(PS, maybe silly to go through this effort to get the colors you want. probably not to knife lovers here. Maybe more serious to those here would be breaking up exclusive color/steel combinations)

Shouldn't be too difficult. Rivets are usually mild steel (not hardened) so a handheld drill should be fine. But you'll probably bugger up the LW scales in the process.

dang it. just saw a solid blue LW in s110v. Probably going to abandon this idea now that I think of it and pick that up to alternate carrying on weekends (between maxamet and s110v). I really wanted to take a stab at using the 52100 steel, but I always had a fear of scratching black blades. I have a couple and that's always in the back of my head for some reason. I'll probably just end up keeping it and sell in the future.

The links out to other who have drilled out rivets seemed to have lots of pictures missing (thanks photobucket!). Maybe in the future I'll feel more confident risking it if i find a beater donor to practice on.

Last question. Seems like there is an adjustable pivot screw in newer versuons. Is it possible to pull that out and pull blade out the front without dissasembly? Prolly be really hard to put back though.

In theory it could work but unforeseen issues always can arise. Ive heard of pivots not releasing on one side. The BB lock could move on you and make it hard to get the blade back in.

You don't need to remove handle to remove the blade just remove the pivot screw and the blade will come out.

Hey Cholo,
Buy the parts and take the plunge.
I did and I am planning to do it again
once I locate a cheap Blue LW.
A satin M4 blade will go in.

I you choose to try to pry it removing the pivot.
Good luck.Cracked FRN scales or cursing yourself because you can't get the D notch on the pivot to line up.

Even if you take the screws out of the pivot the blade still won't come out unless you butterfly the knife scales out enough to release the pivot pin, which is also captured by the scales

I just scored on a Blue LW Manix.
Parts have been ordered.
LW Manix in M4 coming.
