Hey guys, I'm looking for some help. I'm getting into folders and wondered where is the best place to get information besides on here. I've looked on here and YouTube but there is just not the info out there on folders like there is on fixed blades. Also recommendations on any books or DVDs. I plan on doing liner locks. Thanks!

There is one very good WIP in our forums here for sure and I'll just bet a couple of more. You will still need to proceed with care and ask questions but if your good at making straight knives, I believe the liner locks will happen for you.

I'll search the threads again. Thanks!Dont know how good I am with the fixed blades, every one I do I can see improvement but I can also see where I need to improve. I do get alot of "You made that?' thrown at me when I show a finished blade to folks. I've only been making fixed blades for about a year.

Well, if you have a surface grinder and know how to use it, that in itself will be a huge step forward. Otherwise, you will be faced with grinding bars for the blade and back bar that must have parallel sides for their length within a thousandth or two, or your folder won't work out.

I do not have a surface grinder but I do have a mill. Perhaps I level the surfaces with it. By the way, I found that WIP you were referring to, awesome information thanks.

Allen Elishewitz's "Basic Tactical Folders" video is excellent, I found it to be very helpful.

"Tactical Folding Knife" by Bob Terzoula is required reading in my opinion, the book is very pricey but you can download a copy. (right above, lol)

you can also download copies of the "How to Make Folding Knives" book for free. I have it on my iPad so I know I got the link off of here somewhere and downloaded it but I'm not sure where exactly I got it from. Maybe somebody can help with the link.

+1 to Dan and the download. Although I'm looking to get one, you don't need a mill. A lot more thought goes into them than a fixed blade but if you love the challenge you'll do fine.

If, however, you are still having trouble grinding a good bevel then I think you should practice some more. With fixed blades you can always change your original intent to fix a screw up and no one would be the wiser. With folders there isn't so much wiggle room.

I've searched the forums and cant find a download. Lots of references but no free download link.

Anyone with more experience than me have any opinion about the book: The Lockback Folding Knife From Design to Completion by Peter Fronteddu and Stefan Steigerwald?
