Well Lads I'm getting married this Saturday in a church that has witnessed the marriage and funerals of most of my family. We will have a short Scottish wedding complete with Bagpipes.
You may be wondering what this has to do with Khukuris? I will be going back to the UK for a honeymoon and I will be visiting my friends in Catterick Garrison (home of Gurkha Recrit Training). I'll also try to get better photos of some of the kukries we will see in some of the museums we will visit.
I tried to talk my bride to be in to using a Kukri to cut the cake with...but she said ...NO.
Wish us luck...She is a great person and You all would like here if you knew her. Cheers! Pipey

Congratulations! May the pipes play long and their echoes take a lifetime to die.

This is either going to be the best thing you've ever done -- or the worst. Let's hope for the best. Congratulations.

I wish you the best of luck, and a life time of happiness. I'll have a shot of Teachers or Cutty on a wonderful occasion.:D

May your years together grow sweeter with time. Drink some Glenlivet or another single malt for me!

Pipey Cain...?

I wish you the joy you dream of, the comradeship you need, the support life demands, the surprises of a constant companion's personality...and most of all....a long and happy partnership with THE person for your life.

Fare well, where ever you fare.

I getting choked up reading your posts. I have always enjoyed this forum and I thank you for your support. Sarge are you still "downrange"? If so, thank you for taking the time to post in. (thank you anyway) Uncle Bill: I am looking for a 15in chitlangi with a horn handle as my next khukuri....Let me know if you got something like that. Thank you all. You lads are the best. Cheers!

Re: still "downrange"

I'm home Pipey, and pretty dadgummed tickled about it. I'll be hearing the pipers play come November at the Scottish Festival in Salado, Texas. Haven't missed it in seven years, glad I got home when I did!

Marriage is a pretty big step. To quote Daniel Boone out of context, "make sure, then go ahead". And don't forget to treat her good on your one year anniversary, 'cause that's when the warranty expires ;-)

Congrats Pipey! That would've been a hell of a picture though, cutting your wedding cake with a khuk...;) :D

After twenty-nine years and ten months (keep track of those anniversaries!) of wedded bless, I am convinced that the secret of a successful marriage lies in remembering those four little words:
"Whatever you say, dear."
:D

I would love to use a khukuri to cut the cake but my bride is firmly determined that I do not...Thank you all for the kindness again!

Pipey, the best to you and to the bride. I wish I could be there to hear those pipes!

Thank you Mike. The pipes are a big part of my life and I could not get married with out them. Most people in our area only think of bagpipes as a mournful instrument, but they also bring a lot of happiness to those of us with IT in our blood.
The Gurkhas have a good pipe band and it is a shame that they dont come to America as do other British Military pipe bands. Thanks for your post Cheers!

Well Boys, the wedding is a memory now and it went off real well.
We employed maximum shock to the congregation with the pipes. Some people present had never heard pipes before (talk about underprivilaged!) Right now Im sorting out a few last minute things before we fly out today. So far the first day of being married is great.....I'll post in when I get back Cheers! Pipey
