I'm receiving confusing information on the year my buck 110 knife was made, sorry to ask something that has been ask before but I would really like to know the true date because my dad gave it to me about 26 years ago and I Love the knife.. Iv had it for over two and a half decades and have mainly used it for hunting and cleaning the game I have taken, its probably the sharpest knife iv ever held in my hands, nothing compares to it..!!! Iv read the date code chart and understanunderstand it and after looking at it I found the symbol > to the right of the 110 marking and that year marking is 1987 my dad gave it to me in 1990 approximately and after thinking about that would mean he only had three years after giving it to me but that can't be because I know he's had it much longer so I asked him and he said no no I bought that off a guy he worked with at General Motors in 1977, he didn't even pause to remember.. So something is wrong here so I looked at the knife a little closer in better light and what now I clearly see is a dot, it has a dot in the center to the left of the marking 110 and > symbol to the right of the marking 110..??? But on the list of years with their different kind of markings for the different years doesn't mention a particular knife year with those two symbols on opposite sides of the number 110..!? Im positive my dad knows when he approximately got it because im just like him and there is just some things we just don't forget and from what iv read the 1977 buck 110 doesn't even have symbols but a model number with USA printed below BUCK... I forgot to mention mine has the three brass pins that are in the same location as pictures of a 1977 iv seen and the 1977 bucks from what iv read is the only year that had them, also I have the original sheath that has buck on it with 110 stamped on it too.. I'm sorry for asking and telling such a long story but just want someone's professional help.. Thank you very much to anyone that my help. Sorry but I just took another look real quick and dot to the left of 110 is not quite in the center of 110 but just slightly a bit higher up and also to add mine says USA under 110 also.. Sorry guys forgot to add the length of it, the blade appears to be 3 1/2 inches long and the handle is approximately 5 inches long, hope that may also help .. Just a quick over view, it has the three brass pins as a 1977, it has USA under BUCK and a dot to the left of 110 and the history of when bought by my father so why is there a > to the right of 110...?!?!?! Again thanks to anyone with any advice, I appreciate very much

Sorry for asking for help, this was my very first post and literally just joined and was just trying to find some help and didn't know where to ask or have a clue to go about it, seriously don't know why I wasted my time..!

Pictures are by far the best way anyone can help with the date. There is a sticky the top of the Buck forum here that tells how to post pictures.
Your dad might have bought it in the 1970s and maybe had a blade replacement at one time? I could tell more by seeing good pictures of it.

Photos would go a long way here. The minutia involved in dating an older 100 can be mind boggling, but there are folks here that thrive on it.

Without photos, I'm going to speculate that if this is the same knife that your father purchased in the 70s, perhaps the knife was sent to Buck for a blade replacement in 1987?

That might explain a newer blade in an older frame...

Gunner3 take a picture of the tang of the knife (that portion of the blade where the stamped name is located) where we can clearly see, and read, what is there. We will be glad to help out. This is a good community of nice and knowledgable folks.

As the others have said, only pictures are going to help sort this out. The presence of ">" to the right of 110 clearly and definitively dates the blade to 1987. Forget about the dot, that is a whole different discussion but does not override the date code. Without seeing it, the dot could merely be a Rockwell test dimple. You have to accept that your blade dates to 1987. The only question to be answered here is if the frame/handle is from the same time period as the blade or earlier. Pictures of the handle from various sides will enable the experts here to tell you if the handle is from the 80's or 70's. If your fathers memory is that good, surely he would remember if he sent the knife back to Buck for a repair / blade replacement.

Gunner, welcome. We are about to get you the best help available anywhere in dating your 110. I agree with the above ^ . The dot means little. The blade stamp carries the weight along with handle material and pins. Take good, clear pictures with good lighting and at the top of this Buck Forum is a directory that will assist you toward posting a photo. Good luck. DM
