Getting my Busse sharpened

I just received my TGLB and wasn't that impressed with the sharpness of it out of the box. It couldn't even cut the hair on my forearm. I would really like to send this blade out to someone who has a great reputation here on the forums for sharpening Busses and wanted to get some feedback / recommendations. I don't want to wait six weeks for my blade to be sharpened either. Lastly, if anyone knows of someone reputable in the Seattle area who sharpens blades I'd love to know about it since I live in the area. Thanks so much!

Two options right off....one is Busse has a GREAT warranty and would take care of you no doubt. The only other in the US I have personal experience with is Nate (Norcal Blacktail). He does GREAT work…!!!!

RichardJ also does really good work too. I have read testimonials but have no personal experience.

Just sent an email to Busse to see if they can sharpen the user HOGFSH that I just picked up that won't bite into paper the whole length of the blade. Wondering if they can go less than 40 degrees inclusive with it so I can touch it up with my Sharpmaker but if they can't no big deal as it's way too thick for what I was looking for so I'll probably end up trading it for a thinner one.

Have you considered stropping it yourself? It might not take very much to get it hair popping sharp

If you're talking to me I wouldn't know the first thing about stropping. Correctly anyway..

ive recd busse's that i thought were on the dull side.i just gave it a quick strop or use a ceramic stick lighly.it might just be a burr on the edge.if not id send it back to busse, shouldnt take that long...

I've had good results following Murray Carter's method of "back stropping" on a hard stone, then peeling-off the burr by slicing the blade edge on soft wood - without pressure. Just allow the weight of the blade to do the work on the wood. Put a very sharp edge on my Skinny Ash in little time. Good Luck...Cheers.

Nevermind.. 15 - 20 minutes on my apex and some bloody fingers later it's pretty darn sharp. :-) Should probably learn how to strop though.. (as I bleed on my mouse and keyboard...)

Richard J is the man, but I don't think he's doing any work right now. Is there not a very well known sharpener in Seattle called Seattle Edge?

Years ago I sent some Swamp Rats to Bill Siegle(sp?) and they came back awesome, one symmetrical one asymmetrical . Not sure if he still offers sharpening though..

Wow, I didn't know about Seattle Edge. Thanks for the recommendation Allen R. I think I will take my Busse there. Look like his sharpening is F'ing badass.

If you aren't happy with the edge on a factory new Busse, let Jerry know. He will make it right.

He took great care of me during the SAR3 stuff that happened a couple of years ago.

I purchased that HOGFSH that Oil Man sharpened. He did a great job!..Cheers.
