I have finally decided that I need a Sebenza. I stopped getting knives just to get them and I plain on having a bunch of users and no safe queens. So, I want a Large Sebenza. I know I'll end up getting the Small later but I want the Large now. I want the Regular and not the 21. The only difference is the 21 has the finger cutout, right? I like the look of the regular a lot more tbh. What do you guys think? Is the Large Regular the knife for me?

The regular has a little more belly in the blade as well, but it's not really a huge noticeable difference. The problem will be trying to find the Regular.

The regular is discontinued, and the 21 is nice. That said, I wouldn't give up my large Regular for the world.

Regular vs. Classic/21 is a personal preference issue. I currently have one regular and five Classic/21 Sebenzas. I strongly prefer the better lockbar access that the cutout in the Classic/21 knives offer. As mentioned above, the regulars were discontinued a few years ago. You're probably going to need to check BST forums to find an undecorated one, although lots of dealers still have regulars with various graphics.

Like JNewell said, the difference is very subjective.

I found the little bumps or scallops on the Regular very uncomfortable, and borderline painful, to hold onto.

The biggest difference would be the ridges on the finger cutout/choil area of the regular compared to the 21's half moon, smooth cutout. I much prefer the 21 handle because it really is more comfortable but I do think the regular has a slightly more utilitarian blade shape. If I could make the perfect sebenza it would have the 21 handle and the regular blade. If I had to choose between the 21 and regular it would end up being the 21 by the slimmest of margins.

Even though on paper the are almost the same knife they feel very different in your hand. When I pick one up I think yep that is the one. Then I pick up the other and think hmm I don't know I think I like this even better.

The real solution of course is to get several of each :D

Buy an Umnumzaan. They are functionally similar but imho significantly over engineered. Mine gets carried everyday and its smooth as hell to open. I have the standard umnumzaan not the tanto and after handling a small, large and umnumzaan, there was no comparison.
