I'm currently in the market for a lower priced, high value Spyderco. I've got my eye on a Cat which I found locally for only 30 bones. But before I pull the trigger on it, I'm curious as to what some of your thoughts are on the Cat and if I would be better off considering other options in the price range of say $50 or less.

30 bucks seems like a good price for a Cat (I've seen them on-line for about $45). In that size category, and in the $50 price range, I'd recommend a Dragonfly. Great little knife. I doubt you'll find much difference in performance between a Cat and Dragonfly, but I just like the latter a little better.

that is a good price for a cat. but for the size & price i would go with a persistence, to me this knife was a bit better built. I would also recommend the Tenacious just because it is my all time favorite knife. but that's just me, i'm not a real fan of the wire clip design & the way mine was built, but on the plus side is that nice CMP-S30v steel it has.

Tenacious is a good choice and runs about $35-40. If you can push $55 you can probably swing a Delica which is also a great choice(higher end steel than the Tenacious).

+1. The Tenacious is a great knife, so is the Delica/Endura series.
