New philosophy that helped me justify buying the Ruger Bisley .44 Special last week, and several knives at Blade that I have wanted for quite a while:

"Self, you're 64 years old! If you don't do it now, then when?"

After all, it's only Kim and Michael's inheritance I'm spending.:D

.

Are you really "spending" it or just transferring the funds to a different investment account? "Spending" would be more like a using the money on something that you wouldn't be able to recover any money back on, like a big dinner, vacation, or experience. I think what your buying isn't really "spending" the money, just re-investing it!

Can't argue what that!!!

Also--the happier you are--the longer you live...
So you are actually, helping them to see you longer....

See--all your guilt is gone!!!

MikeH, Cheers to you and your revalation!! I always tell my parents, "you earned it, now enjoy it!!"

'ducci, I like the way you think;)

I have long noted that each of us is going to be worm food sooner or later, and 20 years from now no one will know or care what we blew some cash on way back in 2010.

Plus, do you want to spend it, or save it for your wife's next husband to spend it?

Mike, it is simply asset re-allocation.

Now, where're the pics???

While I'd like to leave my kids a little something after I'm gone for putting up with me all these years  :D, I'm a firm believer in spending everything you've worked so hard to earn and save over your lifetime. In a perfect world, I'll pass away the day I run out of money. I'm not saying that it has to be that way; it is something to shoot for though. :D

Enjoy your new acquisitions!

Wow. I'm completely rethinking this whole idea.

Yep, no one will care what I spent my money on 20 years from now. Except the lucky person who inherits! :D ;)

Mike,

I subscribe to your philosophy 100%. And why leave only money when you can also leave a few nice guns and knives to remind your descendants of who you truly were? Those special possessions of yours will be dearer to family you leave behind than a few dollars, I bet. I often have thoughts about a special knife or gun and how it might be treasured after I'm gone by my son or by one of my favorite nephews (I'm only 5 years behind you).

Thank you again for your kindness at the trough on Saturday--I really appreciated your generous gesture. And congratulations on snagging the only left-hand-grind asymmetrical Basic in existence. It was impressive watching you take control of the trough. :D

Best regards,
Will

As long as you are responsible and maintain a more than healthy savings, go get whatever pleases you.

Money can be gathered at will, life can only be spent.

As a young man, I have to constantly remind myself to go and do the things I will not be able to later. That pretty much applies to everyone though.

:thumbup::thumbup::thumbup: I believe !!!

200 years from now, no one will remember ANYONE alive today except for some BS in history books.

Mate, live in the moment and enjoy every second of it. It was a pleasure meeting you and Kim the other day. Wish we were still there!

But our Busse's will still be here! ;)

Mike, Hammy has it right... Asset re-allocation! :D Along with the major things like family, it's the little things in life...Enjoy them all to the fullest!

another very good reason not to have safe queens. you might as well be the one to beat the snot out of a beautiful knife, instead of leaving it pristine for your kids to pawn after you die.
