Friday I went to set up some deer stands in WI for the gun season.

The area that your seeing is 80 aces that have been managed for whitetail for the past 12 years and I think some beautiful country.

To get to the main area you have to cross a creek and follow a trail up about 70 yards and this is the view at the end.

First one up.

I can't wait to to spend some time in this one. It sits on the south side of a coolly with a bedding area behind it and has 3 big deer trails and 2 smaller ones criss crossing in front of it.

The FBM saw lots of use this weekend and of course preformed outstandingly.

We put up four stands to go with the six that are in that area already and will be going back in a few weeks to set up 6 more on the 160 thats about 6 miles from this spot.

Thanks for looking.

Looks great. I think I've got the same ladder stand :)

I spent some time this weekend bow hunting from one of them. No luck...just some does that never got close enough for a shot. Visual sitings are good too though. I always come back from those situations thinking...."If I only had a gun in my hand today" :)

Well...couple more weeks of bow, then muzzleloader, then rifle.

Very Cool pics man !!!

With that kind of setup I would totally perfect throwing my FBM... Imagine hitting a deer throwing a FBM from the top of that elevated hunting chair.. That would be sweet as long as the impailed deer does not run off with the FBM still in it.. :D

great pics and set up.

Hey J, no worries of the deer going far if he hits it with the FBM. Even a glancing blow would bleed him out quick and definitely leave a trail to track:):):)

I seriously need to see someone hunt a Deer with a FBM .... When I make it to VA next season T. I will give it a shot.. I can throw a FBM ok, but there is always room for improvement.. :)

You cover them all.

I've had my bow out like twice in the past nine years. kinda hung it up after I bought my bird dog.

I wouldn't doubt it on the ladder stand, I think Cabalas had a big sale on them on the cheap. I carry two foam pads and a inflatable when I'm using those. Rump on one foam pad, feet on another and inflatable for a back rest.

 on the the visual, we practice whitetail management so we do a lot of watching waiting for the right one. :)

T and UJ, give that stand a year and all you'll have to do is jump down and ride the deer to the grill.

Great pics, Helle, thanks!

Regular gun season opens here Oct 18. We've got a deer mix planted in several areas that look good. Can't wait!!

Nice pics! Rifle season doesn't start till late November in Pennsylvania. That sure is some good looking land though. I'm in the process of starting to plant some apple trees and maybe some oak to help the deer out.

About the ladder stands though...I may or may not have restless leg syndrome. For someone who is 19, I can't stand still one minute. Especially my legs, and for that reason, I always find it better to just build a simple ground blind or just bring out a nice lounge chair and "chill" behind a log. Having done that though, I missed out on a nice buck because for one, the log in front of me happened to be rotten, and I felt like I had to peel away all the wood, and second, because I wasn't higher up, I couldn't see him coming. The good comes with the bad I guess, just live and learn.

:( I won't be using any of these until mid November, opener over there is the weekend before Thanksgiving.

Minnesota on the other hand is having a early intensive harvest on October 11th and 12th in a area I hunt, doe only but it's all good.:)

Then firearm opens Nov. 8th this year and I'm going out for that too.

Thanks and good luck.

bmilla35, I use ground blinds too, I'll get a few shots next time we go over.
We've built ares up on the sides of bluffs so you really get a good view in them and are more comfy IMO. The majority of deer I've taken have been from the ground.:)

As far as the moveing around. Something that helped me is to take a small ziplock bag of bird seed out with me and sprinkle a little around. If you stay still you'll have lots of company to keep your mind off wanting to move around. Maybe worth a try.:)

Thanks and good luck too.

Well certainly is a good idea, it might have sometime to do with attention now that you mention it. Would bird seed be considered a deer attractant though? That is a big no no it Pennsylvania. But yeah, I went out and spent some good money on a nice wide tree stand with a big platform but it still didn't help.

I guess it would be up to the officer but I'd defiantly check it out.

In WI they'll actually let you bring 5 gallons of corn out with you though I don't it's a option.

Minnesota baiting whitetail would be a no no too but I still don't worry about it myself in such a small amount.

You could always bring some unsalted sunflower seeds, good for people and little critters.:)

Haha I like the way you think :D:thumbup: Maybe I will call the game commission and ask them.

I wish they would make an exception to the bait rule in areas such as Pittsburgh, where they are desperately trying to get rid of all these deer!

By the way, think birds like ranch sunflower seeds? :p

Outstanding!

Me and some of my friends are heading up to the Sierras Thursday morning. Man I'm looking forward to it big time. Hopefully we'll have more luck than we've had the past couple. Anyway you cut though.....it's going to be a good time!

It has to be tough out there, I'm guessing big and open.

I know exactly what you mean, we've had some awful years if you go by whats hanging on the meat pole but they have been some of the most memorable times as well.

Good luck and thanks.

Oh yeah, PICS!:)
