Just saying Hi!

I have been working on the knife shop a bunch getting it ready for Winter, hopefully I will have everything wrapped up within a week or so.

The shop is now OD Green and almost disappears into the forest! It really needed the paint, I had not painted it when it was finished.

I have been organizing and cleaning the shop as well, once I am back in there I will be at full speed and then some.

Now I just need to work on the snow plow and a few other necessities and will be done. I pretty much put everything off last year and it feels good to be getting back on track!

It has also been great getting in some family time, Jade is growing up fast. She can almost walk already!

I'm a little behind on emails and mailings but am trying to keep up. Tomorrow I will make it to the P.O.!

Fall in Colorado and the newly painted shop!

Cool deal! I've been trying to gt ready for the rains here. We had one day of fall, it went from 100* on a Sunday, to 88* on Monday, 74* Tuesday, then right to the 60's. Everyone is sick with respiratory issues from th weather change, the cloud cover has set in, I've been trying to get the yards ready, fixing gutters, sealing windows, getting the heaters out, next I have to prep the house heater. Its an underfloor unit with a single outlet in the middle of the house, gas fired radiator. Only nice thing is I upgraded to digital controls last year, so it runs more efficiently now!

Don't forget to take pictures of Jade all the time! Zylers baby book has over flowed its case, and it only goes up to his first birthday! Enjoy your time now while she's somewhat stationary, once they are mobile its game on!

Yeah, you guys have it hard there in CA...

The shop looks great Daniel! I've always been a fan of subdued colors on buildings, especially ones in natural surroundings.

We had one of those floor heaters in Lubbock when I was in college, lol we used to cook toast on it.

Pictures for sure! We have a couple albums completely full. She is too fun!

lmao!

Thanks! I told my wife get the green that looks like the scrub oaks and it matches pretty well! Of course now orange would blend in, lol I have an orange cat and he is full on camo right now.

Winter here can be a big deal, we are in a very high elevation area on the north face of a mountain. The mountain you can see in the photo had a ski hill with a lift on the opposite side back in the 1970's. We can easily get packed snow well over our roof. Sometimes we have to do snow removal all day for days on end, I am hoping and thinking it will be a mellow Winter.

Two years ago we got 9 feet in three days and then it rained. We literally had to shovel for half a mile to get out, it was like concrete. My plow and blower wouldn't touch it. We had kept up with it but it rained with about 3 feet from the night so what can you do! lol

The mullein plants are very small this year, the snow often gets about the same height as the mullien. It is something an old timer told me and over the years have noticed it is a somewhat accurate way to determine snowfall.

"Ya gotta be prepared if you want to live on the Ridge."
This is what our distant neighbor told us when we moved to 7 Notch Ridge.
You know what to do, Daniel!

Hey they call my road "the ridge road"! We have the best summers and winter is great for snowboarding or skiing but can sometimes be a lot of work.

Get a Sno-cat yo.
Our entrance hill faces South. No prob at all in the Winter.
The wildlife up here is amazing. you know about that too.

Thanx for reminding me exactly how much I hate the snow! I'm not a cold weather person, don't get me wrong, I can do just fine in it, but I don't have to like it. I'm a riverrat, survival out here in the Delta is very different than Sierra or Alpine survival. I spent a lot of time in the Sierra's growning up, I know my way around there too. That post card I sent you Daniel, just imagine 20' + of snow on that lanscape, that's what the Donner Party had to deal with.

Yeah it gets to be a pain when we get a ton of snow. That postcard reminds me of just north of here where 20-30 feet is very possible! We have gone there in the summer to ski. lol Shaun White had his secret halfpipe in the spot I am thinking of.

Will do! Maybe build a bigger one too, lol.

Guess what I'm doing right now...

on break, lol! from grinding though! I had to crank up the KMG today and am working on the W2 kiridashis.

GoManGo!!
Have a nice night Daniel!
Rolf

Thanks Rolf and I wish you a great evening as well. :D

I had a great day in the shop! The three kiridashis are insanely sharp and ground up to a shiny 600 grit and ready for etch and hand sanding for hamon.

To celebrate I just enjoyed a really nice cigar and an Ableton Rum and Coke.

Every time I see pics around your place it makes me want to move to the mountians. That vid you shot of the bears pokin' around your place almost got me packing our stuff.I think the extra work is well worth it for the beauty of nature. My wife and I have been talking about having a kid:eek:I think it would be awesome to raise a child in a place with so much natural beauty.I love the snow! I have no idea why I live in this hot hot valley:confused: Have a good one y'all.

Does the winter prep include an ax for wood chopping? I don't think I have seen a DFK ax or hawk yet...;)

I like it a lot but wish I lived 5 miles down the road, I did not know it when I moved here but my small valley gets twice the normal snow load! It is a great place for kids with tons to do and great schools. I must say I do like it here overall.

I have a Tomahawk in my order book, look out soon! I plan on making a few when I get to it.

Nice! I just finished my workday here, I just sanded for 8 hours and my arms hurt! lol

Cool you got that knife to center, folders are crazy like that.
