Getting Ready To Pull The Trigger...

Well I thought I would never purchase a knife over $200. Well, I've been kicking around the idea to get a Sebenza but I just can't seem to get past the fact that it is still a "production" knife and the price they're going for. I have narrowed it down to a "Unique Graphic" and it would have to be a Classic model. Then... I found a Brian Fellhoelter "Kwerk"freshly listed today. Actually cheaper than a Sebenza. Really clean lines, great blade shape and size, quality materials and just enough "pizzaz" to make it interesting. Now do I or not. I think I would be afraid to use it because I wouldn't want to scratch it up or whatever. What to do, what to do...?

1. You have to decide if the 1/2 G10, 1/2 Ti thing is your thing. I can't stand it, so that would rule it out for me. It is a different solution to the problem that other makers solved by doing inlay/onlay. It is definitely a less labor intensive one, and should be a less expensive one.

2. If you buy it, use it! It will get scratched and scuffed, but the maker should have NO problem bringing it back up to snuff when you decide to retire it. I'm EDC'ing a Classic Sebenza right now.

Best Regards,

STeven Garsson

I found a picture at http://www.knifewerks.com/. Is this the knife your looking at? Plan on using the knife, I use all of mine and enjoy them as much as possible. See if you can find a Sebenza or someone that owns one nearby. Try to handle it if possible. I had someone actually volunteer to meet me somewhere to show me a Strider when I was looking to buy one.
The Kwerk looks like a nice knife. Deals on Sebenza's will come and go.
They're popular and there are a lot of them in circulation. A good deal on a Kwerk will be harder to come by.

dino, yes that's the knife. The one I am looking at doesn't have the thumbstud but a thumbdisk mounted on the spine of the blade. Man that thing is gorgeous! Still weighing the pros and cons at this time.

I can't comment on Foelhelter's work because I haven't owned one, but I don't think there is a better knife made than the Sebenza for the money, custom or production. Think long and hard about what advantages a "custom" has over a Sebenza and do some research regarding what "custom" means before writing off a Sebenza becuase it's not "custom." There was a recent thread her about it. Having said all that, my EDC is a Mayo medium TNT. :D

LOL!

I don't own any of Brian's knives yet either, but I would buy one in a heart beat. I like the looks of his work. He makes what looks like a cool frame lock. I like the one that has orange on one side.

There's one of those HERE.
That's a link to a quick page I made for the Pasadena show last weekend.
Most but not all of the knives I made for the show are there.

They are also all gone.

The serial #1 kink on that page netted me the Best New Maker award.

I also got the Technical Innovation award, though I only have one pic of that knife, and it's not published yet.

Brian

CONGRATS on the Best New Maker award AND the Technical Innovation award!! Wahoooooo!!!! I am so happy and excited for you Brian!

That's a great looking knife.
I'm thinking if you don't like the Kwerk it would be easy to sell for what you paid. Although, I have a feeling you would end up keeping it.

Hi, Brian. A pleasure to see you here. The model I am looking at is: Brian Fellhoelter ~ Kwerk Linerlock - s/n 35

I have not spent over $200 for a knife and I am not that impressed with Sebenzas/price. For that kind of $ I was thinking of a handmade custom and I like this particular model that you made.

That is an incredible knife that you chose! I LOVE ther green on that one too!!

I see that one is sold now.

Was it you that bought it?

I really liked that knife. It's very hard to do that green justice in pictures.
None of the pics really captured the green, though Neils were much better than mine.

Neil also does a good job describing the knives, though he doesn't mention that they all have a 3/8" bronze pivot bushing in them.

If it's you that bought it, congrats, I think you'll like it.
There should be a real similar piece popping up soon, the same green, but with silver twill scales instead of the CF.

That green anodizing that you do is spectacular!!!
I just spent some time looking at TNT, and drooling over your work. I need to get some of your work.

Hey Brian. No it wasn't me who bought it. It still shows up on the website as available. Waiting for my paycheck to go in tonight to see if I have enough left to "pull the trigger".

#35?
You might want to refresh your browser when you are there, it's marked sold as far as I can tell.

I wish you luck though.
Figured that would be the 1st to go.
