Getting ready to purchase my first Sebenza.

So I finally decided to buy my first sebenza. The small insingo looks pretty good. Any recommendations on where to buy new? The popular online retailer I normally buy most my knives from currently does not have them in stock plus I think they might be slightly over priced compared to other dealers. Never really thought that until I saw a couple of spyderco sage 2's sell on the knife exchange for $50 less than what my dealer sells them for which got me thinking there may be better options out there.

if it is your first just keep your eyes open for a few days on here and u will save some cash.

While the Sage is a nice knife, the blade is wider than that of the sm Sebenza.
Price -wise, I think the authorised dealers have to stick with the MFGSRP.
Maybe this helps:

I would agree strongly with Bella. Keep your eyes peeled on the Exchange. Sebenzas pop up there with regularity.

You can save yourself some stickershock pain through prudent dealings here on the exchange as long as you make sure you deal with folks having solid reputations. There are loads of good people here buying and selling quality knives all the time. Of course, there are also very good dealers supportting the site, and a list of these can be found in a "sticky note" post at the top of the exchange forum. They all sell CRK's at the same MSRP's, so you can just shop for the specific knife you want without having to search for any better site-dependent "deal".

Good luck in your quest.

You can go crazy searching and waiting for "the deal" and then wondering if you're getting the "real deal" or do like I did, decide which model, go to a legitimate dealer and pay the price. Any authorized dealer will do since they all have to sell at full suggested retail. The joy of unpacking a brand new, untouched perfect knife is well worth the extra bucks to me.

While the savings are tempting buying second hand... I'd always recommend buying Strider and CRK from an authorized retailer. The piece of mind in knowing your knife isn't a counterfeit or hasn't been abused, is worth the extra cost.

I've picked up a new small micarta and a new large Insingo in the last few months, then a used large plain via a trade. I haven't done it yet but I'm tempted to send the slightly used one in for a bead blast so I can start fresh on the marks.

Thanks guys for the replies. I was dead set on buying new but maybe I'll give it a few days and keep an eye out on the exchange.

Honestly whatever you want most is good for you in a situation like this. If you are 100% resolved to be able to use the knife, and you would like the complete experience as far as getting one new is concerned, then get one new, and never worry about the money you spent on it new.

If you would like to save a little extra money on the purchase and are willing to wait some time, then go for it on the exchange and just make sure you find a person who is selling with plenty of good sales on their back, and a good price. Ask as many questions as you possibly can and make sure everything is acceptable to you, and then go for it.

If you aren't sure if you will be able to use the knife or not, don't get a sebenza new at all. Get a fair price like I said in the point above, so that if you don't use the knife, don't like it as much as you thought, or just decide you would like something else, then you can sell it for what you paid, and lose only the cost of paypal or maybe a little shipping money.
You are much less likely to truly love a Sebenza if you don't use it though in my opinion. They are excellent knives, but they are tools in every sense as well.

In my mind, used sebenzas are not that much cheaper, unless they are goobered up some. I wanted a graphic (don't buy no ugly grey turd) so I knew I wanted it in good shape, thus not much money to be saved on the pre-owned sales. I bought new. I waited until I was driving across country and stopped at GPKnives (they are right off I70 on the IL side of St.Louis) and picked one out. That's what I'd suggest. There is a dealer listing on the CRK site.

In no particular order I'd suggest buying from GPknives, New Graham Pharmacy and KnifeCenter.

I obsessed about the same question, I ended up going the used route. Saved about $50, but now with all of the "replicas " out there I would be much more hesitant.
