Getting ready to sell collection - advice?

Going to sell off my knives that I've had for 20-25 years. Having trouble figuring out how to determine a fair price. Most of the knives are custom made by Steve Rapp, Bob Sky, Patrick Donovan, Easler, Clay, Herron. Have some of the vintage Cold Steel (but maybe ebay is better for the mass production stuff?). All unused -as new.

I've thought about finding a local custom knife shop and selling on consignment, but not sure that is the way to go (most want 20%)

any advice would be appreciated (id just signed up as a gold member in order to use this forum for advice and maybe to use for listings)

thanks

The way I usually do it is 1) by asking, which you've already done, but you have
many to list... 2) by doing a craigslist/ebay/google check to see what it has sold
for before, 3) perhaps getting one of those big knife digest typebooks that give
price references.

Also try this: When doing a google search type something like: Cold Steel (model of knife)
for sale bladeforums
. That sometimes pulls up an old for sale posting in the for
sale thread.

There's quite a market for vintage Cold Steel, especially those that employ Carbon V. Perhaps it might be best to pick up one of those pricing books and look around.

Best practice would be to compile a complete list (as much as possible). Try and research the knives values online. With the economy the way it is, it would be best to sell knives individually as opposed to a "lot" of say 5-10.
Ebay will most definitely be the fastest, but you may end up getting hit by all kinds of fees; not to mention the paypal fees.

Grant, your Gold membership went through OK, so go to your User CP and click on Group Memberships to select the title.

You have a very valuable collection. If circumstances permit, be patient, sell one or two at a time and research their values. Some knives may have more personal value to you, which may influence selling price. Stephen

Contact Bernard Levine (he has a subforum here). Appraising and selling knife collections is his livelihood.

Best in the business.

Grant, I quoted you and changed your email address at the bottom. Bots can scan for email addresses in proper form, you may want to change the format to what I've quoted.

If I need to, I post my e-mail as a picture. Bots can't search for that, and it doesn't need to look weird :)

A slight improvement on Knifezoids idea: use google to specifiy what site it should search through. You can do that by going to advanced search or type site:bladeforums in the search bar, after your search tags.

I'm pretty sure a lot of them can even parse your version of it. The best way to do it, I'm told, is to "salt" it; for example, jasondookie1481@yahoo.com, remove the jason and you have my email address.

That being said, I don't follow my own advice and I just post mine.
