Getting Scratches Out Of A Knife Blade?

Hi all,

I was working with my new sharpener today(Worksharp) and some how ended up putting some nice scratches on the blade. I've been told to use the green Scotch-Brite Pads with a little stainless cleaner(Windex), is this a good way to get scratches out? If not, what is some other way besides sandpaper/buffing?

The knife in question is a Paramilitary 2, if that makes any difference.

Thanks all in advance for the help!

Largely depends on how coarse/fine the scratches are. The ScotchBrite pad won't do much to remove or hide deep scratches. On that Para2, assuming the steel is something like S30V or other PM steel, it'll take something more aggressive to have much effect. If the scratches are very coarse, it'll probably take some wet/dry sandpaper in a grit that closely approximates the grit that left the scratches on the blade, perhaps a step less coarse.

A picture would be helpful, showing the scratches on the blade.

I would be a little careful using the ScotchBrite Pads. Some of them do contain abrasives. I accidentally put fine scratches in a car windshield by scrubbing off some bird stuff. Check this link to McMasterCarr. There is a link at the top of the page "About Nylon Mesh Abrasives". This has some information about the different grades of pads and abrasives in them.
