Getting smaller?

With all the increase in security have any of you found yourself going with smaller knives for EDC?

Between that and maybe the onset of old fartdom I find myself going with more conventional slipjoint pattern like SAK's and stockmen. If I carry other knives I findmyself drawn to small keychain size knives like Gerber Mini-LST or Al Mar Ospray types.

I've come "full circle" back to smaller knives. I have always been most comfortable with a sub 3" blade. I find that 2 1/2" - 2 3/4" to best suit my needs for EDC and beyond.

Nope. Every knife I get seems to be bigger than the last. :D

I usually carry a variety of folders and straight knives, which also include sheeple friendly slipjoints.

tiny slipjoints, neck knives, and big tacticals I find myself going back to knives in the 3"-3.5" range. Big enough to do real work, small enough to carry comfortably. And I'll take thin stock over thick. I use a knife to cut things around the home and office not to pry open car doors. YMMV

Lets see...

Spydie endura FRN/SE/ats-55 on left hip(custom leather)
LM crunch behind that on hip, serrated blade

Tichbourne H5 on right hip

spydie ss se cricket in right front

spydie ss pe dragonfly on neck...
----
4" serrated, 3" serrated, 5" hunter, 2" serrated, 2" plain...

I'd say thats sheeple friendly enough. :D

Nope. I carry 2 fairly large folders as my EDC's...A Benchmade 806 or 805 and a Benchmade 721s.

the smallest i would ever go is 3''
i have smaller knives but i would never carry only one knife smaller then 3''
if one of my little knives is going out in the world its got a bigger meaner friend backing it up.

Same here. The smallest blade I found comfortable to carry has to be at least 3 inches on the blade and up.

My path to EDC a knife is actually going from small blade to large ones. Started with slipjoints like the SAK and soon switched my taste to lock blades because I found lock blades are safer, and can't really go back now. The other thing is, ever since I've EDCed and handled some "bigger" knives, like the 110 or the Buck Strider, I feel that lots of other folders are too "small" for me. Same thing goes for my preference on fixed blades too.

I resemble that "oldfartdom" comment - yes - that for which I always reach is an sak "classic" Ive even gutted and skinned deer with it. but I still like to have something a bit more substancial along - like the M-16 or the Gerber FSII or whatever works for the day!

Over the last year, I've been getting smaller knives. That results from a mix of changing tastes, getting older, concerns about having a knife taken for security reasons, sheeple stupidity and just plain wanting to stay out of trouble. Whenever someone asks to borrow a knife, or I use one, it's more along the lines of a Mini-Grip, a trapper, or a SAK. Still, I do carry larger blades (about 4 inches) for big jobs. Whatever the reason for the smaller knives, I'll probably head back to the bigger blades in a while (just got a Skirmish and that thing kicks)

No,I still EDC an Endura.I've been carrying a lighter revolver for the last several years but that has to do with getting older and a bad back, not increased security concerns.tom.

Nope. I'm still carrying in the 3-4" range. For the past couple months I've been switching between an Benchmade 806D2 (4") or a BM 721 or 814 (both around 3 1/4")

I have always liked small knives. Just something about small precision tools.

Recent purchases I have been happy with are the Benchmite 310
and the Straight HAK pictured below.

I carry with in the laws of the area I'm in. No questionable opening actions. It just adds to my rotation options. I just bought a sheath for my Large Sebenza to carry it on my belt in Colorado. I also dont worry about sheeple.Theres alot of them carry SAKs and Leathermans on their keyrings.
