Specifically my Gerber Covert.

It has a partly seratted blade of material that don't stay real sharp.

I could really dig a better plain blade!

I can't spend much on it - do I have any options???

It would get some carrying if the above happened.

Sorry Joe, I didn't see this the first time.
I had contacted benchmade in the past about replacing a blade that had the coating badly scarped. they indicated that they could not recoat, but rather, would replace the blade for $60.
It seemed to me at the time that replaceing the blade was more expensive than I wanted to bother with.

For a similar knife you might try the Pentagon Elite from SOG. It has a textured Zytel handle and AUS8 (?) steel.

Try viewing at the SOG homepage first to see if you like it.

I found the Benchmade Darkstar to be very simular to the Gerber in blade shape. Better steel, G10 handles over titanium liners

For you to get the a new blade made would cost you just as much for a new knife. You might as well buy a brand new one and retire the one that you have.

In regards to a SOG PE2... it also has a serrated blade. Unacceptable.

Suppose I was very careful, and slowly ground away the serrated part of the blade? I would turn it into a sort of recurved plain blade by doing so. If I never got it too hot, would I grind past the heat treating?

I don't know about regrinding the blade (just do it s-l-o-w-l-y), but I'd check out Benchmade's 350, with Zytel handles, or the 3550 Auto with aluminum handles(although the auto costs almost double). Great steel, and very similar blade shape, as well as being available with or without serrations. Another one to check out would be the Kabar Dozier Thorn. A little more expensive, but great D2 steel, and excellent quality.

I have a BM 350 as it happens. Only thing not to like for me is the BT coating, and it could be just a smidgen bigger.

I rotate several knives (but always go back to my Vapor II) and no serration would get the covert carried too.

hmmmmmm...how 'bout a spearpoint M16 from CRKT then? Got lotsa options and configurations with that series...
