I removed the picture 'cause I'm in violation of the rules. Can't have that.
See ya' down the road.

Need more info.... Are you making those? Engraving them? What is going on there? Is that stuck in clay?

Looks great, just need some more details on what exactly you have going on there. :)

@BryFry: I'm just engraving and inlaying the knife bolsters.(Wm. Henry makes the knife)
The bolsters are fixed in a plastic called "ThermoLoc". It gets soft, like clay, when heated---hard as an ex-wife's heart when cool.

Nice. Well your engraving and inlaying is is looking great!
I am a bit artistic myself, and like to tinker around with customizing knives as well. And I would genuinely love to see/hear more about how this is done. Like what kind of tools do you use, what is your technique for the different processes, what is the purpose of the ThermoLoc clay?

Also, I am familiar with WH knives, and have always liked them, just wondering if this is something WH pays you to do, or are you doing it as an "aftermarket" customization for an individual, or is this your own knife that you are customizing for yourself?

I definately want to see/know more, though FYI I think this should probably be posted in the mainenance and tinkering section of BF.

Ok...in a nutshell this is all done freehand with small chisels, punches and scrapers.
I use a chasing hammer, hand pushed gravers, and pneumatic engraving tools (GraverMax)
The techniques are those used by hand engravers and would take a few years to describe in detail.
This is a commission from The Wm. Henry company.
Thermoloc is just a plastic material I use to hold the parts rigid without marring them, as opposed to clamping them in a vice.

FWIW---I have a few projects that I'd like to do for me, but I can't afford my own work.

That is very cool. Are the bolsters in your pic near finished, or do you have much more work planed for them?

If you don't mind me asking some questions I would like to hear about how you got into hand engraving to begin with?

What made you interested in it, and how did you get started?

Did you happen to know someone who you were able to apprentice under?

I ask because I have always wanted to try some basic hand engraving, but I'm not sure where to start without dropping a ton of money on tools that I have no experience using. :)

Please feel free to share any other pics you have of your work, or tools. I'd love to see them.

Well that sucks. I'm guessing they frown on "professionals" showing their stuff here if they are not paid members or something?

Though shouldn't it be Ok to show ones artistic work, so long as they're not actively advertising it for sale here??

....I just wanted to learn more about how this beautiful work is done. :(

I thankfully got to see the pic earlier today but just for clarification, who did you get in trouble with; the mods or wm. henry?

I got in trouble with the moderators.....when somebody asked me some questions about my work, I directed them away from BF via links to my commercial websites. Apparently that is advertising and I'm just a "registered user". Therefore, the links were removed.
...and now as I'm looking around the forum, I see other "registered users" posting links to commercial websites--the same thing I did. The difference is that my links were for my own websites and not someone else's....and I'm starting to get a little irritated about that.
However, I digress. I'll get over it. There's plenty of other places to hang out.
I'll see you all later, just probably not here.

...and let me add this: The moderator that contacted me wasn't mean, nasty or cruel. The rules were explained to me and at the time, I was OK with it.
Their house, their rules. No problem here.

Brian, the moderators don't see every post. Please report (the little triangle below every post) the posts you're seeing and we'll take care of it.
