Getting started with straight razors

I've recently decided to try shaving with a straight razor. Knowing this is not the safest technic, or something to waste time on, I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions, recommendations, or "horror stories" about shaving this way. Thanks!

My only straight razor shave was at a barber shop. It was close but not much closer than I can get with my double edge razor at home. If you haven't tried double-edge razor's yet I'd suggest to shave that way for a while first as it is should be a good inbetween step between disposable razor / electric razor shaving and straight razor shaving.

If you are already familiar with shaving DE my only suggestion is that I have heard feather razors are very good, albeit quite sharp. Be very careful! There's a barbershop in NYC that actually holds classes on straight razor shaving. The NYTimes did a story on them this year. Why not look them up and take the drive down to get a lesson in person?

I've used a DE razor a few times, but nothing fancy. Thanks for the NYC tip. that's an excellent suggestion. I've never herd of them.

straightrazorplace.com lots of people more than willing to help you out. check out the wiki to start, then start asking!
btw, I'm in month four of shaving straight, and I'll never go back to a cartridge, maybe, MAYBE a DE, but never a multi

I would recomend badgerandblade.com they have tips and videos and all sorts of help.

Make sure your straight razor is professionally honed.
