Just wanted to say thanks to everyone here for all the tips and advice.
Also to show you how the two traditionals I fell into to get me started.
First one is a boker 4000 that my boss had in his tool box for a long time. He new I was into knives and gave it to me.

Second one is a camillus WWII era us army knife (thanks to BF members for help identifying it) that I found semiburied in a jobsite today.
It's super rusted but I'm sure I'll get it working again.

Thanks again

The Boker is a great knife. I wish I had a boss that generous. The Camillus is a goodie also, but don't over clean it. Old knives should show their age. Over cleaning will cut the value to collectors. Welcome aboard.

Great start, Andy! Be careful, though. It's an addiction that can rapidly take over! :D

Welcome Gafishing! Congratulations on your first two traditionals.

Very cool of your boss to give you that Böker. And, I bet that Camillus will prove to be a great user for you. I have a few 80s era Camillus knives and I like them very much. I agree with Rich S: let it show its age and experience with dignity.

How cool to dig a knife up at a job site and turn it into a working too again!
