Howdy,

I am working on a Loveless drop point style knife. I've got the scales on, rough shaped, and nearly flush with the guard.

Can you guys offer some tips how to shape and finish the underside of the guard, especially how the side of the guard meets the scales. I am a bit afraid I'm going to undercut the scales if I use a belt.

Much appreciated!

Just to clarify, you have attached the scales BEFORE you put the guard on?

Loveless put the guard on before the scales and used a mill to clean his soldered joints.

No. Guard was pinned on first. I need to make the chamfer or transition from the scales to the guard. The area where the side of the first finger will rest when holding the knife.

Bottom of the tang transition from tang/scales to guard is roughed out using a .5" mill prior to pinning finish with a .5" small wheel.
