Getting the 9 Ready for the Wild Pig Season

It is autumn/fall down here. The red stags have started roaring, and wild pigs have ventured on to a neighbour's land within the last few days.

I set some snares for the hogs this morning, and this afternoon I worked on one of my BK9s to get it ready for the work ahead. While I can see the benefit of the black Becker coating, I thought it would be nice to see the naked steel. It took a bit of work to remove the coating, but after maybe half an hour of vigorous sandpaper work I beheld the blade in its natural beauty.

Looks like you are ready, the 9 looks good.

Hope you have success with your snares, I have 2 groups of hogs that have invaded my land in the last month or two, gonna build a guillotine trap and see if I can catch a few.

Hi Coote,

I've really enjoyed your hunting posts, thanks for sharing.

BTW, if you ever need to strip off the coating on another knife, the use of paint stripper makes it very easy, I learned that from other members. Just be sure to mask the portion under the handle so that unseen area doesn't rust.

Like your 9! Best wishes on your hunts, get the big one!
I'm patiently waiting for a BK39 that's on backorder, I'm jealous lol. :)

Nice to see the King ready for more action and adventure. I'm not much of a fan of the coating for general Becker use, either. Looking forward to your successful hunting photos....
Getting ready here for spring turkey season starting in May. BK-9'd be a bit of overkill for a turkey, tho....

Shucks, Gassy... I bet you say that to all the boys.

Thanks for all the friendly comments. If I'd had some paint stripper, I would have definitely used it. I doubt that I'll ever strip another Becker though. The coating does serve a purpose, and it may as well stay on my knives that only get casual use or that are kept in reserve. Besides, using the sandpaper created some 'us' time for me and Miss Nine. Its similar to a situation where a guy is alone in a relaxed situation with his lover. Would he tip corrosive fluid over her clothing, or would he slowly work on the challenge manually?

Good luck with the turkey season and the hog trapping.
