My new battle hawk! the handle is a bit short, but I love this thing!
And the best part: it was a gift from my girlfriend! she saw me drooling over it in mags and online and ordered it (gawd I love her!)

the specs say blade material is .400 inches, plus handle material. this thing is THICK, and HEAVY, but for CQB, this thing would rule.

I'd really like to handle one of those hawks in person.
Looks like a good breaching tool.

Cool girlfriend.
You're a lucky guy.

I don't like it, and here's why: To me, the tomahawk represents a tool first and foremost. A tool to cut with. A tool to pound with. A toold to survive with. This design looks too much like a fantasy weapon to my eyes. My opinion. My $0.02. Your mileage may vary.

well, I have yet to see a fantasy "weapon" made of this high of quality materials. Also this is made in America, not china like the so called fantasy "weapons" (read that as wall hangers) I guess I should consider myself lucky nobody has started screaming "mall ninja"

You are very lucky to have a girl friend buy you a nice guy gift like that.
It does look interesting just not my style !!! Enjoy..

MALL NINJA ALERT

J/K Nice hawk! At almost a half an inch thick, it would seem to be a little heavy. However, I have to say that of the full tang hawks I've handled, the balance more than makes up for the weight. I also like the swells cut into to handle, especially the one on the bottom. Maybe it is a little tacticool, but you could sure put in some work with it.

made of this high of quality materials.
What material is it made of? Just being thick with what looks like micarta scales for the handle doesn't necessarily mean it's made of "high quality" materials. Also, how much does it weight?

I'll have to concede the point that it's cool your girlfriend would buy you something like this, though.

Crucible S7 tool steel, and the handle is G10. the sheath is kydex with a Tek-Loc fastener. weight is 44 oz

DOSE IT WORK AND IS IT COMFORTABLE?

Not yelling,cap lock.

If you like it and it works for you Con-grats on a cool tool. (and GF)

That is a chunk of steal! Enjoy!

Hack something up (like an old car, or a nieghbor's car you don't like) and get back to us w/pics, and a review

GG&G is one of the premier weapons parts and accessory makers, with parts in use by Delta, SEALS, Rangers, Marines and Special Forces. Additionally, S-7 (and from Crucible no less) is arguably the best material to make a hard-use impact tool out of, and can be treated to hold a proper edge for a long time. Combined, I have no doubts that this is a very fine tool indeed, regardless of looks. If I didn't already have axes from Gingrich, SRKW and RMJ I'd consider getting one of these for use in Iraq.

It would be handy for when you are locked out of your spaceship.

:D That's awesome!

The design is actually quite similar to hand axes I've seen on high performance military aircraft, to be used to egress through the skin in the (unlikely) event that you can't get out of any of the proper egress routes like doors, windows or ramps.
