I've had a lot of people ask for a picture of the Bhojpure. Unfortunately, when I had the khukuris photographed, I forgot to enclosed a Bhojpure. That's why there's been a blank space next to the Bhojpure description on the GH website. Well, here's a picture of the bhojpure sandwiched in-between some other GH khukuris.

group.jpg

From bottom to top, the Khukuris are: Service Number One, Bhojpure, Panawal, Sirupati, Deluxe World War, and Dragon.

The deluxe World War is nothing more than a standard World War with a brass handle. The Dragon is the biggest Khukuri I currently stock. It is a two-hander, and is engraved. The only other khukuris that are not pictured are the mini-jungles, engraved presentation, and kothimora.

Craig,
I really like the balance and feel of the brass handle on my Deluxe World War model. Is it available as an option on any of the other models?
Berk

Berk,

It's available on every model with the exception of the Service Number One. Lalit won't touch that one, as it's his pride and joy. He insists on only sending them out configured like the ones he sends to Her Majesty's Gurkha's. I asked him once to do something on some of the SN1's, and he responded, confused, "Why?." I didn't pursue it.

The only other brass model I have in stock is the Dragon. Of course, with your special-order sirupati . . . I can't remember what you decided to name it.

Also, do you recognize the sirupati at all (I know you do, as we've already talked

Craig,
I wanted to call the special-order Sirupati the Kali special because it's going to be sexy and lethal - an 18" Sirupati with silver-plated brass handle and Kothimora scabbard. I'm really looking forward to getting my hands on it.
Berk

Berk, Call me stupid (STUPID - there, I did it for you), but what is the connection between kali, sex, and lethality? As mentioned, expect to wait about 6 weeks for delivery (I already placed the order). When I get it, a pic will go up here for all to admire. You'll probably get hate mail from the non-havers!

Craig,
Kali Ma ("Dark Mother"), Hindu warrior-goddess of death & destruction, usually depicted as a naked, four-armed black female figure, her tongue, face and breasts blood-stained, wearing only a necklace of skulls, corpses as earrings, and a girdle of snakes, astride and sexually joined with the prostrate body of her husband, the god Shiva. I understand that some Nepalese kamis believe a khukuri should be ritually blessed with the blood of a sacrificial goat or chicken in a worship ceremony invoking the goddess' favor, known as a Kali puja. Maybe you can videotape such a ceremony when you get to Nepal.

I'm not a collector or anything, in fact as far as knives go, I stick almost exclusively with Balisongs (15 year addiction I can't kick)....but every once in awhile I see something I like the look of. This is one of those cases. Craig, I gotta' have one. I like the Sirupati, but I don't see IT, or a price on your page. Could you please enlighten me?

Hi Clay,

Craig is out of town until next week on a USMC humanitarian mission to Nicaragua. I am taking over his duties until he is gone (this is his wife).

Good news on the sexy and lethal (!) Sirupatis - they should arrive within the month. The Sirupati checks in at approx. 20" length from end to end, and will be $89. I wonder if everyone will start calling this khuk the "Kali?"

Clay: Marya is correct. The Sirpatis will be here soon. Both owners of the only two GH sirupatis love them. When they come in, they will become regular inventory, and I promise that I will also get the Bhojpure pic up on the website too.

Yes, thanks for reposting the pictures. I think that 10 inches or so of blade is all that I want, and the more I think about it the more that a longer or changeable handle seems attractive. To keep weight down and maybe gain a bit of slicing over other models a 15 inch Sirupati seems like a good bet. Anyone have a handleless 15 inch Sirupati or even a service model ? Is this a dumb thing to do ?

Johno,

I have one SN1 coming back (the customer chipped the handle and is upgrading to a Bhojpure), and I have one SN1 that I discovered had been shipped with a loose handle! I also have 2 handle-less World Wars left. I don't remember what I charged Mad Dog and Andre Simpson, but I think it was $40.00. You can have any one of them for that. Same goes for anybody.

Thanks, but without wanting to sound like that I don't appreciate the offer as it's a good one, I evidently have two blades in the mail.

HI notes that their khukuri service models are better than issue, and I noticed that Atlanta Cutlery offers what they say is a GI khukuri. The cutlery store at the mall offers one made in India but it's pretty crude and has no edge on the blade. What's the scoop on the different offerings ?

Craig,

Yes, you had charged me $40 + $4 (shipping) for the handless WW
smile.gif
. I was out over the weekend chopping up some more of rampid forsythia I have (we call it Cousin It...lol) in our yard. Granted the woody plant isn't that hard to hack up, I was swinging, and digging with the WW for at least 2 hrs total. One thing I noticed was that the brass tip of the end cap can really dig into your palm - it just reminded me to choke up a little more when it was bothering me. The weird 'axe' handle shape I made on mine was actually pretty comfortable....no blisters on my hand (I use my hands all day, so they are pretty tough to begin with)
smile.gif
.

I clipped a few rocks while out, but the minor dings came out with a few swips of the
flint/sharpener. The rest of the blade cleaned up nicely with some soapy water, and a light coat of motor oil. I was going to use vegetable oil, but I was afraid it would build up on the sheath (has anyone notice this happening?).

I love the Khukuri - thanks Craig (fyi - the Pig Putty is in todays mail), and sing for intrucing it to me
smile.gif
I am hooked! Why do I want to buy another one??!! - explain that one to my wife
frown.gif
.....LOL.

Johno,

The Khukuris you see advertised at the outlet stores are supposedly "Genuine issue" and sometimes come with a certificate saying they're the real McCoy. I would suspect that if they are really issued to any military force, that unit has not won a skirmish for a long, long time.

They do have some redeeming value though. After you use it to chop something, you can safely give it to your kids to play with. No fear of anyone getting cut, although I suppose blunt trauma would still be an issue.

The outlet stores are ok for mass produced knives, but the real Khukuris are hand made, one at a time. If you want an investment that will last your lifetime, buy your Khukuri from Craig at GH.

MadDog, don't look now, but I think blackdog is sending some future-handle material your way (I realized that I was dillusional in thinking that I'd have time to make a handle).
smile.gif

It was my original intent to buy one from GH but I ended up getting a couple of blades elsewhere. It was just how it worked out.

Johno,

Regardless of where you bought them, may they always be sharp and be there for you when you need them, like a trusted friend.

We're all here on this forum to exchange ideas and information on what makes us happy, SHARP STEEL.

Just one word of advice. Don't pull the blade out of the sheath indoors for extended periods. You will only be able to withstand the urge to chop something for short periods of time and furniture is expensive these days

Johno,

The Atlanta Cutlery "genuine" issue is made in India by their own factory, and may in fact be issued to Indian Army soldiers - I have no idea.

As for the Service Number One, Lalit Lama (who supplies us) delivers Service Number One models to Nepalese Gurkhas serving with the British Army. These are the same ones we offer.

Enjoy your Khukuri - like Blackdog said, don't take it out of the sheath inside - you'll end up chopping things up

Craig, thanks much for the photos! In one picture, you have answered many questions for this beginner. You'll be hearing from me!
